Sony Announces Upcoming State of Play Event on Sept. 24 Showcasing Over 20 PS5 and PS VR2 Games
Confirming earlier speculation, Sony has announced a new State of Play event scheduled for Tuesday, September 24. This event will showcase a variety of upcoming games for the PlayStation 5 console and the PS VR2 virtual reality headset.
The event will be streamed live on the official PlayStation YouTube channel and Twitch, beginning at 6 PM Eastern Time (3 PM Pacific Time). According to Sony, the presentation will run for over 30 minutes and feature “news and updates on more than 20 upcoming PS5 and PS VR2 games from studios worldwide.”
This State of Play event is conveniently timed just before the 2024 Tokyo Game Show, which starts on September 26. On the same day, Microsoft will be streaming its own Xbox event at 6 AM Eastern Time (3 AM Pacific), where they will announce their own updates.
There are speculations that Sony may unveil plans for a remastered version of Horizon Zero Dawn for the PS5 and PC during the State of Play. Additionally, updates on previously announced PS5 titles, including Insomniac’s Wolverine game and Marathon from Bungie, are also expected. Fans can likely look forward to brand-new game reveals during this event.
Earlier this month, Sony introduced the PlayStation 5 Pro console, which features an enhanced GPU for improved graphical fidelity and 60FPS frame rates for games developed specifically for it. Preorders will open later this week on September 26, priced at $699.99, with shipments commencing on November 7.
Furthermore, Sony has announced 30th-anniversary PlayStation editions of both the PS5 and PS5 Pro consoles, which will come in a distinctive gray color. Pre-sales for these special edition consoles will also begin on September 26, with shipping set for November 21.
