Sonic Rumble has officially been postponed to spring 2025. This decision was announced alongside a sneak peek at the game’s forthcoming update, which is set to introduce significant new features including two fresh game modes.
Initially unveiled in May 2024, Sonic Rumble is a multiplayer party game designed for 32 players, centered around battle royale-style competitions. Development began at Rovio following Sega’s acquisition of the company in 2023. Following its soft-launch in Colombia and Peru in August 2024, the game has successfully expanded to over 40 additional countries. Although Rovio had originally aimed for an international release between December 2024 and March 2025, they have now pushed this timeframe back.
As the anticipated launch window approached, Rovio confirmed that the global debut for both PC and mobile versions of Sonic Rumble would now occur in spring 2025. Along with the delay, a preview of the update, tagged as version 1.2.0, highlighted several forthcoming enhancements and features.
Upcoming Features in Sonic Rumble
A standout feature in the next patch will be Quick Rumble mode. This new format is designed to provide a rapid, engaging gameplay experience where players can participate in single-round challenges, making it ideal for play on-the-go. Additionally, the 1.2.0 update will unveil a competitive mode called Rival Rank, intended to motivate players to climb leaderboards by offering various rewards, although specific details about these prizes have yet to be shared.

Exploring eSports Potential for Sonic Rumble
The introduction of Rival Rank hints at Rovio’s interest in tapping into the eSports landscape with Sonic Rumble. The company had previously ventured into this realm with the 2018 Angry Birds Champions, a competitive gaming variant created in partnership with WorldWinner.
The upcoming 1.2.0 update will also feature a new functionality called Crews, enabling players to form groups to tackle challenges collaboratively. Players will be encouraged to create clans through yet-to-be-announced rewards. Another exciting addition will be the introduction of distinctive character skills that enhance gameplay while aligning with the game’s lore. For example, players can wield Amy’s Piko Piko Hammer to stun opponents. Rovio is expected to confirm a definitive global release date for this free-to-play title soon. Meanwhile, those interested can still pre-register to earn digital rewards as incentives.
