New Highlights from Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds Revealed

SEGA has unveiled exciting details about its upcoming title, Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds, during the Sony State of Play event held on February 12, 2024. The freshly released gameplay trailer offers fans a glimpse of the innovative gameplay featuring vehicles that can transform across land, sea, and air. Notably, the beloved character Cream the Rabbit makes her long-awaited return, alongside the Extreme Gear from the beloved Sonic Riders series.

Innovative Gameplay Mechanics

While the gameplay mechanics feel reminiscent of Team Sonic Racing, a notable addition is the introduction of “Travel Rings.” These engaging elements will transport players to a new world beginning from the second lap of each race. As highlighted on the official PlayStation Blog, the lead racer holds the power to select the “CrossWorld” to which all racers will teleport.

Extreme Gear Makes a Comeback

The beloved Extreme Gear, which fans revered from the Sonic Riders series, makes its return after a 14-year hiatus. According to SEGA, this hoverboard-style gameplay will be enhanced with a “boost-based”approach, although further details remain to be disclosed.

Players will experience a high level of customization as characters are no longer bound to specific vehicles. Choices abound, allowing players to modify vehicle parts, color schemes, decals, textures, and even the interior design. In addition, characters such as Rouge, Charmy, Espio, Storm, and Wave can be seen featured on promotional billboards, though their playability remains unclear.

Returning from Sonic & Sega: All-Stars Racing, the Transform feature allows for automatic vehicle adaptations to suit diverse terrains.
