Sonic 4 Return Discussed by Human Character Following Surprising Minor Role in Sonic 3: “I’ve Been in Every Game”

As the beloved Sonic the Hedgehog franchise evolves, Natasha Rothwell shares her insights about returning for Sonic the Hedgehog 4. With minimal screen time in the latest installment, her role in the third film saw her character, Maddie, creatively disguise herself as her sister Rachel to infiltrate a formidable GUN facility in London. This thrilling plot twist placed Ben Schwartz’s Sonic up against a new threat, portrayed by none other than Keanu Reeves.

In a recent interview with ScreenRant, Rothwell expressed enthusiasm about her experiences on the set of Sonic the Hedgehog 3 and her hopes for a return in the anticipated fourth installment. Praising the collaborative atmosphere among the cast and crew, she reflected on her positive experiences working on the previous movies:

I hope so. I mean, Jeff Fowler, he’s just so lovely. And Toby Asher and the gang, Tika, James, like I’ve been in all of them and so absolutely I’ll come back.

Rothwell also shared her unique production schedule, revealing that she filmed her scenes in London just before jetting off to Thailand for The White Lotus season 3. Describing this rapid transition as a “whirlwind trip, ”she reminisced about the experience, noting the challenges of switching between projects:

What’s so crazy about the third one, I flew to London to shoot my scenes for the third one and then went to Thailand. So I literally stopped and shot it and then kept going. So it’s cool to look back because I’m just like, I barely remember being there because it was such a whirlwind of a trip. But yeah, hopefully I’ll be back.

Rachel stands out within the Sonic the Hedgehog universe as a character who has faced significant trials. In her debut, she found herself in dire circumstances during Tom and Sonic’s arrival, while her wedding was exploited as a trap in the subsequent film. Fans may be hopeful to see Rachel take a break from the tumultuous action. However, her potential involvement in Sonic the Hedgehog 4 holds promise for a pivotal role, especially with the introduction of Amy Rose.

Following her appearance in the post-credits scene of Sonic the Hedgehog 3, Amy Rose is poised to complicate Sonic’s life with romantic dynamics. Writer Pat Casey has hinted at the challenges Amy brings into Sonic’s universe, which opens a door for Rachel to play a crucial part by offering advice to Sonic as he navigates new relationships. Despite any tension with Tom, Rachel could emerge as a significant influence on Sonic’s personal growth and his evolving Earth family.

Though Rachel’s screen time in the Sonic the Hedgehog films has been limited, her character has become a vital part of the franchise’s fabric. While often in conflict with Tom, she has injected much-needed humor into the storyline. Her involvement in Sonic the Hedgehog 4, slated for release in 2027, could potentially provide continuity following her minimal role in Sonic the Hedgehog 3, where she primarily supported Maddie’s narrative.

Given Rothwell’s evident passion for the role and the positive rapport she shares with the team, fans can remain optimistic about her anticipated comeback in future installments. The evolving dynamics of the Sonic the Hedgehog universe may offer fresh storylines, with Rachel likely playing an essential role as the franchise continues to delight audiences.
