Solving the X-ray Puzzle in Silent Hill 2: A Step-by-Step Guide

The latest edition of the horror-survival game, Silent Hill 2, has proven to present a greater challenge compared to its predecessor released in 2001. One of the first instances highlighting this increased difficulty occurs upon entering the Brookhaven Hospital, where players are tasked with solving numerous puzzles to advance in the game. Among these is the X-ray puzzle you will encounter inside the hospital.

This particular puzzle requires you to locate and gather all the scattered X-rays throughout the facility. Once collected, your next step will be to identify specific markings on these X-rays to determine the correct combination for a lock. Upon successfully entering this combination, the door will unlock, granting you access to new areas.

X-ray Puzzle Overview in Silent Hill 2

Your first task will be to locate the X-ray Viewer, found in the designated X-ray Room located on the third floor. Fortunately, this room is already unlocked and clearly labeled. Once inside, check behind you on the bed, where you will find the initial X-ray, which depicts a pelvis. Next, make your way to the Doctor’s Lounge on the first floor, where a Keypad Combination Note is posted on the notice board.

With the Keypad Combination Note in hand, proceed to the Nurse’s Station on the second floor and input the code 3578. After unlocking this, head to the Treatment Room, also on the second floor, where you will discover a moldy X-ray.

Next, travel to the Pantry located on the first floor; here, you will find Mold Remover. Use this item in conjunction with the moldy X-ray from your inventory to clean it, resulting in a new X-ray of a hand.

Return to the X-ray Room on the third floor and utilize the X-ray Viewer to input all the scans you’ve gathered. This will reveal the crucial combination code needed for the lock.

The unlock code you’ll need is 4-37-12. Enter this code into the lock to gain access to the area hidden behind the door. As a convenient alternative, similar to the padlock at Brookhaven Hospital, you have the option to bypass all the previous steps and directly input the code to unlock the door without the necessity of collecting all the X-rays.
