Solutions for Resolving the Blank UI Bug in The Sims 4 Limited-Time Events

The Sims 4 has embraced the concept of limited-time events for several years, and 2024 marks a pivotal year as EA appears to have finalized a successful formula for these occasions. This year introduced three unique events: Happy At Home during the summer, Reaper’s Rewards for Halloween, and Cozy Celebrations for Christmas. Notably, the latter two events ventured beyond simple log-in rewards, encouraging players to complete quests in order to earn exclusive items.

If you’ve engaged in either the Reaper’s Rewards or Cozy Celebrations events, you may have encountered a frustrating issue known as the blank UI or “no tasks”bug. Although the precise cause of this bug is still up for discussion, various theories exist—from negative interactions between the game events and user-created mods to interruptions caused by saving mid-quest or rapidly pausing after loading a screen.

Despite the ongoing debates regarding the causes, addressing this bug is ultimately EA’s responsibility. However, until they implement a lasting solution, players can take the following steps to resolve the blank UI issue during events in The Sims 4.

Resolving the “No Tasks”Bug in The Sims 4 Events

The problematic “no tasks”or “blank UI”bug has been notably present during the Reaper’s Rewards and Cozy Celebrations events. When this glitch occurs, players may see the event icon in the upper-left corner during Live Mode without any task list appearing, which prevents the completion of event quests and claiming of rewards.

If you find yourself facing this issue, consider taking the following initial actions:

  • Wait a Moment: It may seem trivial, but sometimes the game’s event UI experiences a slight delay. If the task list doesn’t appear immediately after loading your save, a brief wait of a minute or two may resolve the problem.
  • Disable Mods and CC: Since official updates to The Sims 4 are not tested alongside all user-generated content, disabling mods and custom content (CC) can help. Many players have successfully completed event quests on a fresh save without these additions.

If the above steps do not alleviate the problem, PC players can follow a workaround that has demonstrated a high success rate. Unfortunately, console users may need to consider repairing or reinstalling the game as a last resort.

To fix the bug on PC, begin by navigating to This PC > Documents > Electronic Arts > The Sims 4. Always back up the UserSetting.ini file (left) before deleting the accountDataDB.package file (right)!Image credit: VG247

For PC users, the recommended approach involves backing up the UserSetting.ini file and subsequently deleting the accountDataDB file from your Sims 4 directory. After this, you can restore the backed-up UserSetting.ini file to the TS4 folder and reload the game, which should allow access to the event quest tasks without losing progress on completed quests.

Always ensure you have a backup of the UserSetting.ini file saved elsewhere, as deletion of the accountDataDB file will remove any time-sensitive unlocks from previous events. To maximize your chances of retaining these rewards, consider making a backup every time you complete an event.
