Solidigm, a manufacturer known for its consumer SSDs, has officially halted the production of all its solid-state drives, marking a significant shift in the company’s strategy and signaling the end of its involvement in the consumer market.
End of an Era: Solidigm Discontinues P41 & P44 Pro Series SSDs
The South Korean tech giant We Hynix acquired Solidigm from Intel in 2021 for a staggering $9 billion, anticipating that the integration of Intel’s advanced SSD technology would enable Solidigm to thrive. However, recent observations by ITHome reveal that the company has removed the P44 Pro and P41 Plus models from their official website, indicating a decline in the consumer SSD line.
Upon visiting the consumer SSD section of the official website, users encounter a notification regarding “Product Discontinuation”at the top of the page. Additionally, the company has eliminated the consumer SSD category entirely, shifting its focus exclusively to data center storage solutions. A list of discontinued products indicates that the P44 Pro and P41 Plus SSDs reached their end-of-life in October 2024.
While Solidigm’s P-series SSDs were competitive against other mainstream products, the overall sluggishness in the SSD market appears to have hindered their success. Currently, Solidigm is concentrating its efforts on the data center segment, recently unveiling a 122 TB data center storage solution that boasts impressive speed and power efficiency metrics.
This move may highlight broader trends within the SSD industry, where the consumer sector seems to be declining, leaving only a few key players maintaining market share. Solidigm’s pivot towards data centers was anticipated, and the closure of their consumer division seemed inevitable given the circumstances.
