“So Dumb” – Love After Lockup Fans Slam Justine for Handing Custody of Her Kids to Her Eldest Daughter

The latest installment of Love After Lockup, Season 5 Episode 44, aired on October 25 and was aptly named “Red Flags & White Dresses.”This episode showcased how the featured couples are striving for a better future after their release from incarceration, fitting within the Life After Lockup segment of the series.

In this episode, Justine and Michael consulted with an attorney to formalize Justine’s will. Given her high-risk pregnancy, she felt it vital to have a contingency plan in case of her passing. During the meeting, Justine expressed her wishes for her daughter, Kyllei, to gain custody of her younger children.

This request was met with disapproval from Michael as well as viewers online, and even the attorney suggested that Michael and Kyllei should share custody, allowing them both to participate in crucial decisions concerning the children’s welfare. Feeling hurt by the implication that Justine did not trust him, Michael exited the discussion.

Justine attempted to clarify her position, explaining that one of her children required special care due to being on the spectrum, a responsibility she believed only Kyllei was equipped to handle. This reasoning, however, did not sit well with fans of the show, who took to X to voice their criticism of Justine’s decision.

“Justine is so misguided. You want to keep having kids with this man but don’t trust him to look after them if something happens to you? What are you really thinking?”a viewer commented.

“Justine, your daughter isn’t obliged to become a guardian for your children,”another response stated.

“Michael, I understand your feelings. Justine, if you can’t trust him with your kids, then why be together?”another fan remarked.

“Justine’s logic baffles me. If you think your partner is incapable, why keep having children with him?”one viewer wrote.

Additionally, many fans expressed concerns about the burden Justine was placing on her teenage daughter.

“Justine and Michael are purely selfish for getting pregnant so quickly again without thinking about the potential consequences and expecting a 19-year-old to take on such responsibility,”a viewer declared.

“It’s outrageous for Justine to even consider putting all that pressure on Kyllei. She’s far too young to care for multiple kids if something were to happen to Justine,”someone else commented.

“Justine is unfair for placing such heavy expectations on her daughter. That’s an enormous pressure for a 19-year-old,”another user pointed out.

“I think the recent baby made Justine lose her mind. You’re drafting a will when you should probably reconsider your pregnancy?! And you’re laying this kind of pressure on your oldest daughter?!”someone vented.

A Closer Look at the Exchange Between Justine, Michael, and the Attorney in Season 5 Episode 44

The conversation escalated into an argument once Justine disclosed her intention to appoint Kyllei as the guardian of their children, prompting Michael to exit the room in distress. In his confessional, Michael articulated his feelings of disrespect as a father due to Justine’s lack of trust regarding his capabilities.

On the other hand, Justine provided her rationale to the attorney, stating that Michael had only been part of the family for about a year post-release, while Kyllei had grown up with the children and understood their specific needs. Justine emphasized that Kyllei knew how to comfort the child with special needs.

During her confessional, Justine elaborated that Michael sometimes could be unpredictable when faced with challenges. By the end of episode 44, the couple cohabitated with a total of eight children—four from Michael’s prior relationship, three from Justine’s, in addition to one child they had together. Justine concluded by stating that she felt only Kyllei would provide the same love and care for her children as a mother would.
