Recent Developments in Windows 11: Exciting Updates for Insiders
Microsoft capped off the week with significant updates for those participating in the Windows Insiders program. This included the release of multiple preview builds of Windows 11 along with a notable upgrade to the Snipping Tool application—an essential feature for users who regularly capture and share screen content.
Introducing Video Trimming in Snipping Tool
The newly launched Snipping Tool version 11.2501.7.0 is currently being rolled out to Windows Insiders, featuring an innovative video trimming function. This update allows users to effortlessly record their screen activities and eliminate unwanted segments, all within the Snipping Tool interface—no need for external video editing software like Clipchamp.
We are rolling out an update for Snipping Tool to Windows Insiders in the Canary and Dev Channels that introduces trim! With trim, you can adjust the start and end times of your screen recordings to cut out any unnecessary video snippets from your video.

How to Use the New Trimming Feature
To utilize this new trimming capability, simply start by recording a screen session with the Snipping Tool. Once your recording is complete, open it within the app and locate the newly added Trim button at the top of the window. You can then adjust the time markers to specify which parts of the video you want to keep or remove. After making your adjustments, choose either the Apply or Cancel options to confirm or discard your changes. It’s also possible to revisit the trim function if further adjustments are necessary.
Additional Enhancements and Future Features
Alongside the video trimming feature, Microsoft is also enhancing OCR (Optical Character Recognition) capabilities. This feature was anticipated by late 2024, and while we await further announcements, it’s clear that Microsoft is committed to advancing productivity tools in Windows 11.
Additionally, today’s updates for Windows Insiders introduce various enhancements for Copilot+ PCs, fresh layouts for the Start menu, and a new method for seamless file sharing between devices.
These updates reflect Microsoft’s ongoing dedication to improving user experience and expanding functionality within Windows 11, catering to the evolving needs of users both in professional and personal environments.
