Samsung has recently unveiled its latest Galaxy S25 series, placing a significant emphasis on artificial intelligence capabilities. The first impressions indicate a refreshed aesthetic, though the overall design remains consistent with previous models. Notably, the Galaxy S25 Ultra boasts enhanced speed, outperforming last year’s iteration. A key highlight is the new Snapdragon 8 Elite chip, a specialized version crafted by Qualcomm exclusively for these devices. This optimized chipset promises superior CPU and GPU performance relative to its standard counterpart.

Collaboration Between Samsung and Qualcomm: The Snapdragon 8 Elite Chip

The Snapdragon 8 Elite chip represents a considerable advancement in Qualcomm’s smartphone chipset offerings, exhibiting significant boosts in computational and graphical performance. Samsung has integrated a modified version of this chip into the Galaxy S25 lineup, which has been overclocked to push performance boundaries even further. Qualcomm has confirmed to Android Authority that this upgraded chip achieves a peak CPU speed of 4.46GHz, translating to an approximate 150MHz increase over the standard variant.

While everyday usage may not fully showcase these upgrades, Samsung’s performance metrics highlighted during the launch reveal that the new CPU operates 37% faster, and the GPU exhibits a 30% increase in speed compared to the previous model. Furthermore, the Neural Processing Unit (NPU) has seen a 40% performance boost, enhancing the execution of AI tasks—a critical advancement given the new Galaxy S25 series is loaded with innovative AI features.

Despite Samsung’s previous Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chip yielding only a 20% performance improvement, the Snapdragon 8 Elite chip significantly enhances processing power. However, it’s worth noting that the advancements in NPU performance closely align with its predecessor. Samsung and Qualcomm collaborated to tailor this chipset to optimize the Galaxy S25’s unique display specifications, improving image performance through ProScaler image scaling solutions and mDNIe technology.

Qualcomm has also reported a joint effort with Samsung to incorporate the Spatio-Temporal Filter (STF) into the image signal processor, which enhances low-light video capture capabilities up to 8K resolution at 30 frames per second. While this feature is typically available across all chip variants, the Snapdragon 8 Elite chip, based on Qualcomm’s advanced 3nm process, is designed to balance increased performance with reduced power consumption, ultimately boosting the device’s battery life.
