SMTOWN Live 2025: Taeyeon and Wendy Address Their Absence from Upcoming Concerts

SM Entertainment’s 30th Anniversary Concert: Taeyeon and Wendy’s Absence Sparks Controversy

SM Entertainment is gearing up for its highly anticipated SMTOWN LIVE 2025 concert, scheduled to take place in Seoul on January 11-12. As excitement builds among fans, the announcement of a star-studded lineup has been met with enthusiasm and anticipation.

Absences of Key Members Leave Fans Disappointed

However, the excitement was overshadowed by the news that both Taeyeon of Girls’ Generation and Wendy from Red Velvet will not be performing at the event. Their decision to skip the concert has left fans—known as SONEs and ReVeluvs—feeling shocked and disheartened.

Making Their Voices Heard

In a move to address their fans directly, Taeyeon and Wendy expressed their apologies through the fandom-focused platform, Dear U Bubble. Both artists hinted that their absence might not be entirely their own decision, subtly suggesting that miscommunication with their agency, SM Entertainment, played a significant role.

Taeyeon’s Disappointment

Taeyeon, the beloved leader and main vocalist of Girls’ Generation, elaborated on the situation: "It was a situation where I really wanted to perform well and was motivated to do two or three songs, so I told the company (SM) to prepare. I was waiting, but to sum it up, they weren't able to make the preparations so due to it, I ended up not being able to do it at all."

She continued, "I never do something because I don't have any motivation or I don't want to do it. It's not that, but I just want to put on a show on stage with all my heart and sincerity. But since (SM) didn't properly help me, I'm seriously thinking about this — What on earth is going on? I'm saying this to SONEs just in case people may think (the problem) is me. I'm a little worried that there might be some misunderstanding."

Wendy’s Explanation and Fan Acknowledgment

Wendy, the main vocalist for Red Velvet, also addressed fans following her earlier announcement about her absence. She stated, "Hello. You probably saw the announcement already or maybe you haven't yet, but the discussion with the company happened a month ago yet the notice only went up today."

She apologized to her dedicated fans, reiterating, "I apologize since there must have been a lot of ReVeluvs waiting for Red Velvet's five-member stage. But since it is our 30th anniversary, there will be various stages prepared. I hope you have a good time. Thank you and I'm sorry."

The situation has sparked considerable discussion among fans regarding the ongoing management practices at SM Entertainment and the treatment of its artists. As the concert approaches, many hope for clarity and improved communication between the label and its stars.
