Breaking Barriers: Smilla Sundell’s Impact on Women in Combat Sports

In the last decade, the growth of women’s sports has been remarkable. Smilla Sundell is proud to have played a role in supporting female athletes in achieving unprecedented success in martial arts.

Sundell, who was the first-ever ONE women’s strawweight Muay Thai world champion, was present in the front row during ONE Championship’s all-female ONE Fight Night 20 event on International Women’s Day.

During her spontaneous interview while she was on the card, Sundell expressed amazement at the quick expansion of women’s impact on combat sports.

“It’s so nice that females get recognition now and many more opportunities like fighting here in Lumpinee. When I first started, girls weren’t allowed to even touch the ring and now having all females Lumpinee is very big.”
