On March 31 at midnight KST, SM Entertainment launched its much-anticipated trainee group, SMTR25, via an engaging trailer film. The release not only showcased the exceptional talents of the 25 trainees but also highlighted their impressive synchronization and stage presence.
The captivating video culminates with a bold message, “Following our SMTOWN stage, our performance will continue, ”signaling the agency’s commitment to nurturing these budding artists.

In tandem with the trailer, SM Entertainment introduced dedicated social media accounts for SMTR25 on platforms like Instagram and TikTok. This move is designed to engage fans and provide updates on the group’s journey.
Originally unveiled as part of SM Entertainment’s 30th-anniversary festivities, SMTR25, which stands for SM Trainees 2025, features trainees who delivered stirring performances of timeless hits such as SHINee’s “Lucifer”and EXO’s “Growl.”
Identifying the Stars
As of now, the agency has not formally presented individual profiles for these trainees. However, fans have begun to recognize certain members through previous appearances and performances. Highlighted names among the group include:
- JJ: A Japanese-American talent and former member of Big Hit Music’s pre-debut project Trainee A.
- Tata: A Thai trainee with international exposure, known to be the older brother of actor Toto.
- Chio: Noteworthy for his relationship to the executive director of Shinsagae.
Additionally, trainees like Daigo, a past member of TO1, and Hanbi, who attracted significant attention during an SMTOWN concert due to his captivating visuals, are also creating buzz.
Future Plans and Speculations
Currently, SM Entertainment has yet to announce an official debut date for SMTR25, leaving fans eager for details regarding the group’s future trajectory. The methodology for selecting the final line-up remains undisclosed, elevating anticipation surrounding their debut.
Historically, SM Entertainment has utilized survival programs to further showcase trainees’ abilities and finalize group formations. Notably, the agency’s recent project, “NCT Universe: LASTART, ”aired in 2023 and featured a competitive landscape for 10 trainees vying for seven spots in a new NCT unit, culminating in the selection of talented individuals such as Sion and Yushi from SM Rookies.
