The firm has made a public announcement detailing its plans to take legal action against individuals who engage in defamatory behavior.

On Tuesday, SM Entertainment disclosed that it has been actively gathering evidence related to harmful posts and comments about aespa. The agency’s efforts have included monitoring online activity and processing reports from concerned fans. The current actions by SM Entertainment follow a similar legal pursuit initiated several months ago to address defamatory content about other groups in their roster, such as RIIZE. These measures are further underscored by aespa members’ recent legal battle against Sojang, a controversial YouTube channel operated by Ms. Park, known for disseminating unverified rumors and slanderous material.

Reports indicate that Ms. Park had accrued considerable earnings, approximately 250 million Korean Won (around US$190, 000), from her YouTube channel. However, as of January 15, 2025, she faced significant legal consequences, including a two-year prison sentence (with three years of probation), a fine of 210 million KRW (about $143, 000), and mandated community service totaling 120 hours. Initially, prosecutors sought a longer sentence of four years with a fine of 21 million KRW ($14, 400).
