Skyblivion Team Expresses “A Huge Relief” Over Bethesda’s Remastered Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion

Excitement and Anxiety: The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered Launch

Earlier this year, the unexpected announcement of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered by Bethesda sent ripples through the gaming community, leading to unease among several game studios. Among the concerned parties was Sandfall Interactive, whose debut title Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 was at risk of being overshadowed by the fanfare surrounding the remaster. Additionally, as revealed in a mini-documentary by Eurogamer, the Skyblivion mod development team shared similar apprehensions.

From Concern to Relief

Fortunately, both teams experienced a swift transition from anxiety to relief. For Sandfall Interactive, the buzz generated around Oblivion Remastered inadvertently boosted interest in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, proving beneficial for its commercial viability.

In contrast, the relief for Skyblivion came from a different angle. As the team learned, Bethesda’s project would not intrude on their own development efforts. Dee Keyes, a former world designer for Skyblivion, explained, “It was not set in stone whether it was a ‘remake’ or a ‘remaster, ’ so we were concerned. It was a huge relief because we realized, ‘Oh, they’re doing something completely different.’ They’re doing a faithful remaster, and we were going for something more remade from the ground up.”

Support from Bethesda

Since the launch of Oblivion Remastered, Bethesda has notably supported the Skyblivion team. The studio not only provided them with free copies of the remastered game but also extended an invitation for the team to visit their headquarters in Rockville, signifying a gesture of goodwill.

Skyblivion’s Progress

Recently, the Skyblivion team announced that they are in the “final stretch”of the mod’s development. They have also shared an exciting preview, releasing the first 15 minutes of gameplay to give fans a taste of what to expect when the mod is complete and ready for players.
