Skyblivion Update: Progress Towards 2025 Release
The development team for Skyblivion, an ambitious total conversion mod designed to bring The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion into the world of Skyrim, has shared an exciting progress update to ring in the new year. As previously noted, 2025 has been set as the target release date, a timeline that was reaffirmed in their latest video update. The team provided insights on the status of various aspects of the mod’s development.
World Map Completion
Currently, the team is putting the finishing touches on the world map, with the Nibenay region in Cyrodiil’s eastern border being the last significant area left to address. The majority of the map is now ready for exploration, paving the way for the hero of Kvatch’s adventures.
Landscape and Navigation Progress
Significant advancements have been made on the landscapes; however, they must undergo navmeshing to enable NPCs to traverse them effectively. Here are the current statistics:
- Nibenay Valley: 268 out of 300 cells completed
- Nibenay Basin: 289 out of 674 cells completed
Overall, 93% of Skyblivion’s cells are ready, yet only 44% have been navmeshed. To speed up this critical process, the development team seeks new volunteers, especially 3D artists skilled in plant design, as only 74 of the 118 necessary 3D plant models have been created up to this point.
Quest and Music Implementation
In 2024, the team made substantial strides in integrating quests, reducing the number remaining to just six that have yet to receive any initial work. Additionally, the music component has seen enhancements, with all tracks from Oblivion successfully ported and an impressive addition of 24 new compositions, specifically tailored to enhance the immersion across various regions and scenarios.
Shivering Isles DLC Update
While Skyblivion aims to incorporate the DLCs such as the expansive Shivering Isles, these content expansions will likely not be available upon the initial launch:
A note on Shivering Isles and the other big DLC. We are currently focused on the main game experience to ensure it is released on time. Once the main game of Skyblivion is released, we will look into how we can tackle DLCs.
Speculations on an Official Remaster
Amidst the progress of Skyblivion, speculation persists around a potential remaster of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion by Bethesda. If such a project were to materialize, it could present challenges for the Skyblivion team’s plans; however, no official confirmation from Bethesda has been issued at this time.
