Facebook has evolved from a platform primarily designed to connect friends and family into a virtual space filled with diverse content, ranging from ads to irrelevant posts. With the advent of the ***Friends Feed*** feature, users can now simplify their experience, highlighting posts from actual friends while sidestepping the clutter.
Unlock the Magic of Friends
For years, users have yearned for a straightforward way to view updates from their social circles without sifting through an overwhelming mix of suggestions and advertisements. While Facebook has faced criticism about this for some time, the new Friends Feed promises to streamline your social interactions by enriching your Facebook experience with posts solely from friends.
Available on both mobile and web platforms, this feature compiles all your friends’ updates in one coherent space. While it won’t enhance visibility to pages and brands you follow, it does keep you connected with the people that matter most.
Activate the Facebook Friends Feed on Mobile
As of now, the Friends Feed feature is currently exclusive to users located in the United States and Canada. Should the feature prove successful, a broader rollout to other regions may follow, much to the delight of users globally.
Some users may find the Friends tab readily accessible. Surprisingly, it appeared for me without any search effort!
Initially, the Friends tab featured only suggestions for new connections and pending requests. You’ll see the Your Friends option prominently displayed near the top, which leads directly to your Friends Feed.

If the Friends tab doesn’t display on your screen (its placement varies based on whether you’re using iOS or Android), navigate to your profile icon or the hamburger menu, and select Settings & privacy -> Settings -> Tab bar -> Customize the bar.

From there, choose the drop-down next to Friends and hit Pin. Remember, you can pin up to three options for easy access.

If your interface doesn’t allow you to pin Friends, just select the menu to tap Feeds, then navigate to Friends. It may add an extra tap, yet it’s reliable and efficient.
Access Friends Feed on the Web
To explore your Friends Feed using the web version, simply click on the Friends tab located centrally at the top of your screen. The Home tab on the left will typically display the Friends Feed. You can switch to other tabs for activities like checking birthdays or recommendations as needed.
While the web setup may not label this as an official feed at the moment, it operates as an excellent workaround. As of now, the Friends Feed is primarily accessible via the mobile app, but often users can effectively encounter friends’ posts with this method.
Isolating Just Groups or Pages
While I’m thrilled that Facebook is returning to its core with the Friends Feed, many users manage numerous groups and pages, making these updates easy to miss. If you want to only see posts from specific groups or pages, utilize the ***Feeds*** feature, which isn’t new but remains underutilized by many users.
For mobile users, I recommend pinning the Feeds tab to your tab bar similar to how you pinned the Friends tab. Tap the Feeds tab directly. If this isn’t on your display, open the menu and choose Feeds.
Once you’re in, simply switch between Favorites, Friends, Groups, and Pages to customize what you see.

In the web version, click the Feeds tab on the left sidebar to toggle between your favorite options seamlessly.
Looking Ahead: Facebook Has More Plans
If you find renewed enjoyment from using Facebook through the implementation of the Friends Feed, you’re not the only one. The platform hints at introducing “simple experiences” that aim to further enhance usability. My personal wish? The return of custom groups.
Friends Feed Is Not Without Flaws
While it’s hard to criticize Facebook for finally granting us a Friends Feed, there are a few significant changes I wish to see:
- The Friends Feed may be challenging to locate for many users.
- Posts appear out of order, making chronological browsing difficult.
- The feature is limited to only two countries at the moment.
- It would be fantastic if it could serve as the default news feed.
I have personally steered clear of the standard news feed for years due to the complexities involved in finding relevant posts. I often use Facebook only for specific profiles, groups, and pages. Transitioning to a Friends Feed as the default view would infuse a sense of connection across the platform, although it’s likely that such a change would detract from ad revenues, making it less likely to occur.
