The latest episode of Sister Wives was broadcast on Sunday, October 6, 2024, and it featured the Browns as they prepared for Thanksgiving. This year’s celebration marked a significant shift as it was Kody Brown’s first Thanksgiving exclusively with Robyn and their children, following his separations from his other wives, Meri, Janelle, and Christine.
During the episode, Meri disclosed that she had received an invitation to spend Thanksgiving with Kody and Robyn. However, she opted out, expressing her desire not to play the role of a “third wheel”during their special time together.
Kody seemed relatively unfazed by Meri’s absence. In a confessional, he articulated that he found it challenging to express affection towards Robyn in Meri’s presence, holding Meri responsible for the perceived lack of chemistry between him and Robyn. Consequently, he embraced Meri’s decision not to attend the holiday gathering.
Fans of Sister Wives took to X to voice their discontent with Kody’s tendency to blame Meri for his struggles with Robyn, while many expressed support for Meri’s choice to skip the celebration.
“Has anyone checked on Kody? I mean did aliens take his brain? Throwing Meri under the bus is such low class,”a fan remarked.
“Kody goes out of his way to make Meri feel insignificant. I hope Meri stopped giving that man money when he started this,”another user tweeted.
Criticism continued to resonate among the audience, particularly directed at Kody for attributing his emotional disconnect with Robyn to Meri’s presence.
“Anytime Kody mentions Meri, it seems like he’s just always so disgusted with her for interfering with him & Robyn’s need to be a “family” ,”argued a viewer.
“So tired of him blaming everyone for his failures. They need to stop showing him and Robyn, enough already!”another fan reacted.
“The lies from him and the constant victim card are exhausting. Get him and Robyn off the screen, stop ruining this for us @TLC,”wrote a critic.
“What in the world? Kody can’t “be like a married couple” if Meri is there for Thanksgiving? My husband and I don’t do “married things” at Thanksgiving dinner either!”commented another fan.
On the flip side, some fans praised Meri for asserting her independence by choosing not to attend Kody and Robyn’s Thanksgiving celebration.
“This Thanksgiving, I’m grateful for Meri finally being done with third-wheeling at Robyn and Kody’s,”a supporter shared.
“Good for Meri refusing to be a third wheel at Kody & Robyn’s holiday dinner,”one user commented.
“I am so glad Meri is prioritizing her own happiness. Given all those years wasted on someone who so bluntly expresses he doesn’t love her or want her, she should have distanced herself long ago. I truly hope she finds joy,”another individual wrote.
Meri asserts her lack of belonging in Kody and Robyn’s family
In the recent episode titled “How the Might Have Fallen,”Kody and Robyn were seen preparing for Thanksgiving with their children. Unlike years past, Kody celebrated the holiday exclusively with Robyn and their kids, rather than hosting all his wives and children together. Although he admitted to missing the lively atmosphere of a larger gathering, he was not opposed to a quieter celebration.
Kody noted that when Meri is around, it hampers his ability to express affection towards Robyn. Therefore, he felt content with Meri’s decision not to participate in the Thanksgiving dinner.
“We weren’t acting like a married couple with Meri there, and that’s mostly on Robyn. To be fair, Robyn is quite sensitive to other people’s feelings,”Kody explained.
He continued, saying,
“Once Meri is present during Thanksgiving, that changes everything. I’m not close to Meri, and consequently, I’m unable to be close to Robyn either because Robyn wishes to be considerate of Meri.”
Meri echoed Kody’s thoughts, stating that his discomfort around her prevented him from openly showing his affection for Robyn. She acknowledged that given their complicated connection, her presence would make the situation feel “weird.”
She pointed out that she no longer considered herself a “member of the family,”leading her to believe that her joining the dinner would likely complicate matters further. Ultimately, she declined the invitation primarily to avoid feeling like a “third wheel”in Kody and Robyn’s home.
Meanwhile, Kody expressed that the smaller gathering was “safe,”as everyone shared a mutual respect for one another—a sentiment he believed to be lacking among the other family members. Still, he missed his children and aspired to improve his relationships with them moving forward.
Sister Wives airs weekly on Sundays at 10 pm ET exclusively on TLC.
