Recently, Marvel Rivals surged to the top of Steam’s popularity rankings, achieving this milestone over a month after its launch. In just two weeks, the game attracted 20 million players, exposing them to its unique mascot and announcer, Galacta. An intriguing figure, Galacta is the daughter of the well-known world-eater, Galactus, who frequently plays the role of an antagonist in Marvel Comics.
Rather than following in her father’s footsteps as a villain, Galacta began her existence as a tapeworm-like entity inside Galactus before evolving into her own cosmic being. Uniquely, she was raised on Earth as a human teenage girl, allowing her to fulfill her cosmic cravings without consuming entire planets like her progenitor. In the Marvel Rivals universe, she serves as a guide for heroes, stepping in as the orchestrator during multiversal conflicts triggered by dueling Doctor Dooms from alternate timelines.
Frustration with Galacta in Marvel Rivals
Repetitive Comments Become a Frustration

Throughout matches, Galacta makes constant remarks about gameplay, offering commentary on player progress against opponents. While these observations might be overlooked during victories, they become increasingly irksome during repeated defeats—especially when players are met with phrases like “You can’t expect to win them all”following consecutive losses. Additionally, limited voice lines and repetitive quips can heighten player frustration, particularly during challenging streaks.
Marvel Rivals’ first season introduces new skins via the battle pass, alongside the inclusion of two members from The Fantastic Four: The Invisible Woman and Mister Fantastic. Despite this, it’s important to note that the voice performance by Cassandra Lee Morris is commendable, especially during key moments in the beta test last August. However, her brash portrayal of Galacta may shift from charming to annoying when players face setbacks. Introducing more vocal variations could significantly enhance player experience and mitigate the annoyance factor.
Exploring Alternative Announcers: Seasonal Villains
Utilizing Existing Voice Talent for Announcer Roles

Characters like Doom and Dracula, despite their significant lore contributions in separate seasons, lack sufficient presence in the game. This could be remedied by incorporating them as announcers. Players might appreciate the option to select their announcer or rotate based on game maps and team allegiances. With both characters already voiced by talented actors, it seems feasible for NetEase to expand their roles without sacrificing the game’s integrity.
While Galacta undoubtedly represents the heart of Marvel Rivals, her overexposure could be alleviated by allowing seasonal villains to assume announcer duties. The captivating vocal performance of Dracula in the Season 1 trailer showcases his potential contribution, which could significantly improve the gaming experience for those weary of Galacta’s ongoing commentary.
