Astro Bot: A Platforming Gem
Although Sony’s decision to shutter its Japanese studios has been disheartening, the remaining team has truly excelled, illustrating the potential of excellent games. While we acknowledge that we may only see Astro Bot without the promise of a full redesign of previous successes, it stands as a remarkable achievement! Considered one of the finest platformers not featuring Mario and arguably superior to many that do, Astro Bot embodies nostalgia, enhanced with meticulously designed levels and refined mechanics. Its prior excursions were delightful, but this title shines without reservations: it’s a complete gaming experience for all audiences.
Metaphor: ReFantazio – A Fresh Fantasy Adventure
The exhilarating combat and compelling characters in Metaphor serve to mask some of its narrative flaws, delivering a high fantasy spin on the Persona formula that lives up to its ambitious design. With a phenomenal soundtrack that elevates the experience, this game satisfies longstanding Atlus fans while introducing an innovative setting that diversifies the studio’s offerings. And the Winner is: Final Fantasy VII Rebirth
Our team briefly debated awarding the title to the in-game card game, Queen’s Blood, but the entirety of Final Fantasy VII Rebirth is deserving of the prestigious PlayStation Game of the Year 2024 accolade. This phenomenal return to Square Enix’s iconic universe encapsulates passion and meticulousness, surpassing the expectations of dedicated fans.
