Silent Hill f Producer Clarifies: Game Is Not Soulslike, Combat Mechanics Are Unique to This Title

Unpacking the Action Elements of Silent Hill f

Fans of the Silent Hill franchise are in for a surprise with the forthcoming installment, Silent Hill f, developed by KONAMI. This new chapter is set to incorporate various action elements, such as a stamina meter and dodging mechanics, which have led some players to liken it to ‘Soulslike’ games. However, during a recent interview at Gamescom 2025, the game’s producer, Motoi Okamoto, took a firm stance against this characterization.

A Deeper Look at the Critique

Okamoto voiced his concerns about the term ‘Soulslike, ’ commenting that it may mislead modern players. He stated:

“This is one of the things that we see — the term soulslike — being thrown around on the internet quite a bit. And I think it’s a label that’s a little bit disingenuous. Modern players will see like, oh there’s a stamina meter, there’s a dodge, and they’re like, ‘Okay, it’s a soulslike.’ But to be very honest, a lot of these things we actually pulled from classic Silent Hill titles.”

Okamoto referenced Silent Hill 4, which featured a charge meter for attacks resembling the new Focus meter, and pointed out that Silent Hill 3 also included a stamina component. He emphasized that these mechanics have long been present in action horror games, distinguishing Silent Hill f as an action horror experience rather than a straightforward ‘Soulslike.’

The Anticipation Builds

As we eagerly await the launch of Silent Hill f on September 25, it’s not long until players can experience the game firsthand and determine if it aligns with the expectations set by the series’ legacy. The narrative, crafted by esteemed writer Ryukishi07, unfolds in 1960s Japan, centering on a high school student named Shimizu Hinako.

This new title encapsulates the essence of horror while experimenting with gameplay elements that could redefine the genre. As fans, we should prepare to evaluate its impact on both the franchise and the action horror genre.

Stay tuned—Silent Hill f is just around the corner, promising a blend of nostalgia and innovation.
