In Silent Hill f, players are once again drawn into a haunting world filled with perplexing puzzles that challenge even the most seasoned gamers. One of the standout challenges is the Shrine Vault puzzle, often considered the first real test of wit, especially on higher difficulty settings.
Your adventure into the Dark Shrine begins right after overcoming the Altar puzzle. Guided by the mysterious Fox Mask, you delve into this new iteration of the Otherworld, where spine-chilling nightmares await.
Upon arriving at the Shrine Vault, players will find the door securely locked, lacking a crucial dial. Solving this conundrum will prove essential. Fortunately, your helpful doll does offer a clue, ensuring you’re not entirely left to navigate this challenge unaided.
As you attempt to unearth the solution, be vigilant of a newly encountered monster lurking nearby, relentless in its pursuit and often infuriating. For those who excel without succumbing to a hit, there’s a coveted achievement: Untouchable.
Understanding Story Difficulty
Simple Riddles for Casual Players
The Story difficulty is designed for players who prefer a narrative-driven experience without the challenge of intricate puzzles. Here, your doll presents a very straightforward riddle:
“To extoll the advent of our clan, we bestow upon this sacred land the name ‘Heaven’s Benediction. Send forth to the sky a crane; to the earth, a serpent; and to the spring, a tortoise. Pray for the prosperity of our clan.”
Your task is to locate three unique ema: one each depicting a crane, a serpent, and a tortoise. Each correct ema is peculiar; if a duplicate appears, it’s not part of the solution. Inspecting the back of each ema reveals a symbol that Hinako will note down in her Journal, eventually granting you the code needed to unlock the door.
Navigating Hard Difficulty
Prepare for Deceptive Clues
Playing on Hard difficulty introduces unexpected twists that may lead you to doubt your decisions. In this instance, your doll’s riddle takes on a more cryptic form:
“Lightning cast down from the heavens split asunder the decayed tree. From the earth grows kudzu, the prophet of eternal prosperity.”
Identifying the ema related to lightning and the split tree is straightforward. However, kudzu complicates matters. Instead of resembling the drink you frequently encounter, it appears in its botanical essence, characterized by its lush, leafy foliage and striking purple blossoms akin to lavender.
Remember to flip over the ema, and as before, Hinako documents the symbols in her Journal, providing you the proper sequence needed to proceed.
Lost in the Fog Difficulty Explained
Overcoming Confusion
My initial encounter with this puzzle on Lost in the Fog difficulty left me so bewildered that I resorted to brute force to unlock the mechanism.
Finding the necessary ema is relatively uncomplicated. The riddle presented is as follows:
“To those corrupted souls who dare encroach upon our sacred land, may you be met with calamity and destruction. The Yokai of the Carriage had their heads removed. The Yokai of the Umbrella, their arms. And the Yokai of the Kettle, their legs. Only the losses of each shall purify this corruption.”
Your search should lead you to find ema representing the carriage, umbrella, and kettle yokai. Notably, the yokai depicted wearing straw can be easy to overlook. On examining the back of each, you’ll see a set of four symbols instead of one.
Hinako will log these symbols in her Journal, but deciphering the correct code is up to you. This requires counting the limbs of each yokai: for the Carriage (with two heads), refer to the second symbol; for the Umbrella (four arms), the fourth symbol; and lastly, the Kettle (with three legs) corresponds to the third symbol. The outcome presents you with a crucial code to unlock the vault.
