Showrunner of New Spider-Man Series Discusses MCU’s New Daredevil, Peter Parker’s Altered Origin Story & Season 2 Crossovers

Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man: Exploring Peter Parker’s New Origin Story

Jeff Trammell, the showrunner of Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man, discusses the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s fresh approach to Peter Parker’s origin tale. Although Spider-Man was initially introduced in Captain America: Civil War featuring Tom Holland, the MCU has yet to provide a comprehensive account of how Parker evolved into the iconic character. However, with the launch of Phase 5, this animated series will delve into an alternate reality that reshapes his story.

Scheduled to be the first MCU project of 2025 from Marvel Studios, Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man envisions an intriguing scenario: what if Peter’s journey into heroism began under the mentorship of Norman Osborn instead of Tony Stark? As Parker navigates his new role as a superhero in New York, the series introduces a variety of new characters from the Marvel universe, bringing in figures that even Holland’s portrayal of Spider-Man has yet to encounter.

ScreenRant: As we see this as a twist on what fans expect from the main MCU, what was the most enjoyable aspect of reimagining Spider-Man’s perspective?

Jeff Trammell: Honestly, the fun part was how different his origin story is compared to previous iterations. We get to explore what this Spider-Man’s origin looks like. How do we reach the pivotal spider bite? Exploring how diverging from the known path influences his journey has been a fascinating process.

With the series debuting during The Multiverse Saga, is it possible for Peter to encounter alternate Spider-people?

Jeff Trammell: I believe there’s potential for anything in this series, especially if it continues successfully. Right now, I want to emphasize the essence of a friendly neighborhood Spider-Man. We maintain a strong street-level focus, primarily set in New York. While there may be excursions beyond the city, it’s vital to develop this world. If, eventually, we meet other Spider-people, that would be exciting, but our heart lies in a grounded approach.

Jeff Trammell: Leaning into the experience dynamic between our starting Spider-Man and the seasoned Daredevil will create an engaging relationship. The big brother/little brother vibe is intriguing. Exploring the comedic side of both characters is equally fun, especially as we navigate their paths crossing for the first time under Marvel Studios.

Potential Appearances from The Defenders in Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man

“It depends on where the story takes us.”

Given the integration of Netflix’s Marvel characters into the MCU, could Peter Parker possibly cross paths with other Defenders?

Jeff Trammell: Nothing is off the table. The development of the storyline will dictate these possibilities. I am keen to expand our universe and would embrace the chance to include characters like Luke Cage or Jessica Jones in future episodes. The presence of Avengers also allows for endless connections. Who knows what lies ahead?
