Insights into Mayfair Witches Season 2: The Immortal Universe Connection
Warning: This article contains spoilers for Mayfair Witches Season 2, Episode 3!
In a recent discussion, Mayfair Witches showrunner Esta Spalding shared intriguing details about the unexpected cameo from Interview with the Vampire in the latest episode. The event positions itself prominently within the larger Immortal Universe narrative, adding layers of complexity and interconnection among the characters. At the onset of Season 2, Episode 3, the character Lasher, portrayed by Jack Huston, encounters Felix, a vampire characterized by his eerie demeanor, played by Gabriel Freilich. Felix is captivated by Lasher’s unique essence, setting the stage for a meaningful dialogue between a supernatural entity and a vampire.
The Significance of the Vampire Cameo
Felix, who is credited simply as “pale young vamp,”made his debut in the season finale of Interview with the Vampire, where he was depicted assisting Lestat, played by Sam Reid. Spalding elaborated on how the vampire’s appearance in New Orleans aligns with her goal of firmly embedding Mayfair Witches into the intricate lore of the Immortal Universe. In an interview with TV Insider, she delved into the collaborative efforts with Rolin Jones, the showrunner of Interview with the Vampire, to ensure Felix’s character serves a greater purpose beyond just appearing as a minor character.
Spalding’s Vision for the Crossover
We wanted a vampire who was in New Orleans, and we wanted somebody who connected to Interview and carried some of the mythology of Interview. And it was just a conversation with Rolin [Jones] about how that would work. And then looking at the [Felix] scenes, I think they had just finished shooting them when we were working on this idea. I can’t remember the timing, but he was called Pale Young Vamp in their show. And so we gave him a name and so on. But the idea was that he was Lestat’s student and we could see the fun.
It’s not just a cameo, it is not just an Easter egg of a guy, but it’s actually somebody bringing Lestat’s worldview into our show and trying it out with Lasher. And that felt interesting and significant. Of course, it doesn’t stick. That’s not what kind of being [Lasher] is, but it was really fun to try out.
Looking Ahead
As the season unfolds, fans can expect more revelations and explorations of the intertwined stories within this captivating universe. The creative choices made by the showrunners not only enhance character development but also enrich the storytelling, making it an engaging experience for viewers.
