Launched on September 22, 2014, Shonen Jump Plus debuted with over 30 titles. Since its inception, the platform has achieved significant milestones, including a celebration of its impending 10th anniversary slated for April 2025, featuring a unique exhibition to commemorate this important occasion.
Evolution of Shonen Jump Plus
Prior to the launch of Shonen Jump Plus, Shueisha introduced a platform named Jump LIVE. This application garnered significant popularity, amassing over one million downloads. However, it was eventually discontinued due to its overwhelming number of titles that confused users regarding free versus paid content.

The successful long-term rollout of Shonen Jump Plus, which allowed greater creative freedom, set it apart from Jump LIVE. Unlike its predecessor, Shonen Jump Plus has enabled the publication of manga featuring violence and mature themes without the constraints of censorship. As part of its growth strategy, Weekly Shonen Jump began serializing titles that were initially available solely on Shonen Jump Plus in 2017.
The Global Expansion of Shonen Jump Plus
The global iteration of Shonen Jump Plus, known as Manga Plus, was launched in January 2019. The concept had been floated in 2017 but took two additional years to bring to fruition. Shueisha executives recognized the potential for the app to tap into a broader demographic, providing a significant advantage to the various titles featured on the platform.
