Shin Min-a Talks About Dating Kim Woo-bin and Her Comfort Level in Creating Dramas Like ‘No Gain No Love’
Shin Min-a’s recent K-drama, No Gain No Love, featuring Kim Young-dae, was streamed on the South Korean OTT platform TVING from August 26 to October 1, 2024. In a conversation with Star News Korea, the 40-year-old actress expressed her attraction to the role of Son Hae-yeong, a shrewd character who despises financial losses.
To reclaim the congratulatory funds she had previously gifted during weddings, she ties the knot with Kim Ji-wook (portrayed by Kim Young-dae). Additionally, the company she worked for only considered married women for leadership roles in the task force team, prompting her to orchestrate a fake wedding to recover her money and secure a promotion.
When asked by Star News Korea about her long-time partner, actor Kim Woo-bin’s perspective on her new K-drama and character, Shin Min-a revealed that she felt at ease. She remarked that Kim Woo-bin found her drama “enjoyable,”yet she chose not to delve into her personal life out of respect for her co-star Kim Young-dae.
“Honestly, I’m not uncomfortable discussing the topic per se, but I’m concerned about how it may influence our respective projects. For instance, No Gain No Love is a romantic comedy, and many viewers are rooting for the main duo. Therefore, I choose to refrain from discussing [my real-life relationship] out of consideration for my co-actor.”
Shin Min-a Reveals Her Approach to Portraying Son Hae-yeong in No Gain No Love
No Gain No Love premiered over two years after Shin Min-a’s previous K-drama, Our Blues, which debuted in April 2022 and received international acclaim for its narrative, also featuring Kim Woo-bin. In that series, Shin Min-a’s character was involved with Lee Byung-hun, while in real life, she has been romantically linked with Kim Woo-bin since 2015.
Additionally, the actress, known for Hometown Cha Cha Cha, disclosed that she meticulously studied how men use foul language to prep for her role as Son Hae-yeong, a sharp, straightforward, and career-driven woman who tackles every challenge head-on. She is pragmatic and unreserved in her demeanor.
“I wanted to authentically portray swearing. Initially, I thought it might feel awkward, so I focused on capturing the right emotions. I modeled it after how men use strong language, observing their chemistry. It turned out to be more enjoyable than I anticipated, and I believe the character would have appeared bland otherwise.”
Shin Min-a elaborated that the release of her drama on TVING necessitated that she familiarize herself with curse words to deliver her lines convincingly. She stated,
“If this were another kind of project, I could have opted for softer language due to the restrictions, but the OTT format allowed for greater expression. I think this has contributed significantly to the character’s depth, enabling me to portray her passionately.”
You can catch No Gain No Love available for streaming on TVING and Prime Video.
