“She’s the hottest athlete of anything”: Celtic legends weigh in on how much Caitlin Clark could cash in big in the WNBA
Despite initial speculation that she would declare for the WNBA draft following Iowa’s loss to LSU, star player Caitlin Clark ultimately decided to return to the University of Iowa for one more season. Her impressive performances have propelled the team to the Elite 8 of the NCAA March Madness Tournament, and with the end of the season approaching, it is expected that she will declare for the draft.
Despite the upcoming draft of top prospect Clark, season ticket prices for the Indiana Fever have continued to rise. However, it should be noted that despite these increases, the highest-earning WNBA players still earn significantly less than their NBA counterparts.
The issue of Caitlin Clark’s future earnings has been brought to the forefront following her NIL valuation. Despite potential continued partnerships with companies like State Farm and Gatorade after her draft, the ongoing pay disparity between the NBA and WNBA has gained significant attention.
In a recent installment of their Ticket & The Truth podcast, Paul George and Kevin Garnett discussed the issue at hand. They discovered that the top-earning WNBA player in the previous year made $242,000. Kevin Garnett elaborated:
“She’s going to come in expecting more than that.. .. She got arguably the most momentum of any athlete right now she’s the hottest athlete of anything bro real s**t and she ain’t even won that s**t.”

“A’ja Wilson is the GOAT”- Paul Pierce shuts down Kevin Garnett’s comparison of Caitlin Clark
Despite Caitlin Clark’s rapid rise in the world of basketball and her potential to become a star in the WNBA, there are some who question her readiness as a professional player. Since her experience has been at the collegiate level rather than in the professional league, critics such as Paul Pierce argue that she should not be the highest-paid player in the WNBA.
In June, A’ja Wilson secured a two-year extension with the Las Vegas Aces valued at $398,422. This amount surpassed the earnings of the top paid WNBA players, including Arike Ogunbowale, Kahleah Copper, and Jewell Loyd, who received $241,984.
Pierce clarified that he is uncertain about Clark’s rookie season earnings surpassing those of the three other players.
“You can’t pay her more than A’ja Wilson. Sabrina got a shoe.. .. They don’t got the money to give her more than that.”
Despite being a lesser-known league, Ice Cube’s Big3 has the financial means to offer Caitlin Clark a larger sum. They have proposed a $5 million contract for her to join their team. The league’s schedule of eight regular season games and two playoff games aligns with the WNBA’s offseason, giving Clark the opportunity to compete in both leagues.
Whether she accepts or not, that is a different matter altogether.
