Shawn Mendes recently joined Jay Shetty on the podcast On Purpose, where he opened up about his previous relationship with Camila Cabello. The interview, which aired on September 30, 2024, highlighted Mendes’ approach to maintaining privacy regarding their relationship, stating they strive to ensure they “would never cross a line”in their music that touches on their personal lives.
During the conversation, Shawn shared:
“I mean, honestly, I think Camila and I have just done the best job at preserving our private lives. Little fire of love for each other, because no matter how strong mentally you are, when there are millions of people commenting on it, it’s so hard not to be affected by it, and to be swayed by it, and to be inspired by it, and to desire it because people desire it, or to hate it because people hate it, and it’s just human.”
He elaborated, expressing the difficulty of shielding their love from external influences:
“So I don’t really see or care what people say about my love life or my relationships because it’s just, it’s honestly too detrimental to the actual relationship itself that I’ve become pretty strict on that part of it, you know, but it’s crazy, man. This is not a movie.”
Shawn Mendes acknowledged the challenges of navigating social media, admitting that he no longer “goes on social media anymore.”
For those not in the know, Shawn Mendes and Camila Cabello dated for two years, beginning in 2019 and officially parting ways in 2023. Throughout their relationship, they collaborated on multiple hit songs including Señorita, I Know What You Did Last Summer, and The Christmas Song.
“All the noise is just noise” – Insights on Shawn Mendes and Camila Cabello’s Relationship
In his one-on-one chat with Jay Shetty, Shawn Mendes also discussed how they managed to keep their relationship safeguarded from public scrutiny. Mendes stated:
“For me and for us, I think immense honesty, just like over-communication. You know, like, ‘I felt this way when I was doing this interview, and I said this thing, and I felt weird, and I’m sorry if it came off like that. You know, I love you and…it just immediately cuts through any type of assumption that I could make or she could make from anything.”
He further explained:
“And, you know, we’re both amazing at that. I’ll be the first to text her. She’ll be the first to text me. And we just, as long as we’re good, we’re good. All the noise is just noise, and that’s been a huge part of it.”
Although Shawn and Camila’s relationship came to an end some time ago, they stirred up dating rumors again in April 2023 after being spotted kissing at Coachella. At that time, both stars denied rekindling their relationship. However, reports from Buzzfeed indicated that the two were frequently seen together in April and May of 2023.
Interestingly, upon announcing their split, they emphasized their commitment to remain best friends, confirming that their breakup was amicable. In his discussion with Jay Shetty, Shawn Mendes expressed their mutual respect for each other’s “artistry.”
On the professional front, Shawn Mendes is gearing up for the release of his fifth studio album, Shawn, set to drop on October 18, 2024. This forthcoming album features 12 tracks, including Who Am I, Why Why Why, Heart of Gold, Heavy, In Between, The Mountain, Hallelujah, Nobody Knows, and more.
