SEVENTEEN’s DK, ATEEZ’s Mingi, and TXT’s Beomgyu Express Their Appreciation for Netflix’s Culinary Class Wars Survival Show

Netflix’s latest reality competition series, Culinary Class Wars (Korean title: 흑백요리사: 요리 계급 전쟁), premiered its pilot episode on September 17, 2024. This innovative show has captured significant attention, not just in South Korea but around the globe, featuring a unique format where professional culinary masters face off against passionate cooking contestants.

Quickly becoming a favorite among food enthusiasts, the show has sparked a crossover between culinary entertainment and K-pop. Idols like DK from SEVENTEEN, Mingi from ATEEZ, and Beomgyu from Tomorrow X Together (TXT) have openly expressed their love for the series, discussing it with their fans.

On Wednesday, September 25, SEVENTEEN’s Dokyeom, also known as DK, shared a delightful photo of a bowl of food and mentioned in the caption his desire to participate in Netflix’s Culinary Class Wars. He encouraged his fans to watch the show, saying,

“I want to go on Culinary Class Wars too. (laughs) No, but it’s so fun. I highly recommend the cooking survival show!”

Continuing the trend, on Friday, September 27, both Mingi from ATEEZ and Beomgyu from TXT shared their enthusiasm for the show while chatting with fans about food.

How ATEEZ’s Mingi and TXT’s Beomgyu Showed Their Appreciation for Netflix’s Culinary Class Wars

During a fan engagement session on September 27, Mingi playfully talked about the popular cooking show. While contemplating his dinner options, he jokingly remarked about wanting to enjoy a meal inspired by Culinary Class Wars.

“I’m about to have dinner now!! I’m not sure what yet ㅎㅎ. Whatever I’m craving today. Spicy chili gimbap. Or something made by ‘Culinary Class Wars’ (Netflix series). ㅋㅋㅋㅋ”

He even shared a humorous meme from the show, adding,

“It’s me… Song Mingi. As expected, dinner is scary… It’s a meme. MZs gets it quickly. That’s how it is. It’s me, perilla oil ㅎㅎ (meme from the show). ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ”

Beomgyu from TXT also commended the show during a conversation on Weverse DM. He began by asking if fans had watched Culinary Class Wars, highlighting its growing popularity. After watching up to episode 2, he remarked on the challenges faced by the judges, saying,

“As I was watching, I really felt bad for the judges… If it were me, I’d probably judge about 4 people, then call for a break, take a 2-hour break, and judge again. But how do they manage to judge 20 people at once? That’s what I was thinking…”

He elaborated on the difficulties the judges encounter, as even tasting one bite of each dish means eating a total of 20 different dishes. He humorously noted that after trying two dumplings like Chef Baek Jong-won, he would already feel full.

“I think it’s really amazing….No, but you have to eat 20 different things even if it’s just one bite each. That’s 20 times you have to use your chopsticks…!!!!!!!! While watching Chef Baek Jongwon eat two dumplings, I thought, ‘Wow… If I eat two, I’m full…’ But they keep getting two…”

He expressed admiration for the judges of the Netflix series who, despite being full, manage to judge the dishes impartially. Beomgyu humorously concluded that although he cannot cook, he plans to make up for it by buying delicious food.

So far, Culinary Class Wars has released seven episodes, introducing an intense competition where 100 contenders, including 80 underdog “Black Spoon”cooks and 20 elite “White Spoon”star chefs, battle for the title of the best in Korea. Upcoming episodes 8, 9, and 10 are set to air on Tuesday, October 1.

This fierce competition between the contestants has not only captivated audiences but also positively impacted the South Korean restaurant industry, with participants experiencing a surge in orders and reservations, regardless of their progression on the show.
