Under his expert leadership, the team began effectively solving high-profile cases.
In episodes 9 and 10, the bond between the squad strengthens. Tan-sik’s character and his potential personal experiences are delved into as they tackle yet another captivating case.
Seoul Busters Episode 9 & 10 Recap: Tan-sik’s Personal Growth Intertwined with a Gripping Murder Investigation
Episode 9 of Seoul Busters began with a group of school students touring the precinct, during which the squad noted Jang Tan-sik (Lee Seung-woo) standing particularly close to one student. Jeong Jeong-hwan (Seo Hyun-woo) questioned Seo Min-seo (Park Se-wan) about it, who revealed that the student, Beom-joon, admired Tan-sik.
After the students left, Beom-joon gifted Tan-sik a pair of vibrant socks from his father. While touched, Tan-sik hesitated at the colors but masked his discomfort. He then advised Beom-joon to opt for healthy foods over instant noodles, catching the young boy off guard.
Dongbang Yu-bin (Kim Dong-wook), overhearing the conversation, inquired how Tan-sik knew Beom-joon had consumed ramen. Tan-sik humorously explained it was due to the smell. Yu-bin, intrigued, prompted Tan-sik to guess his own lunch. Upon sniffing, Tan-sik claimed he detected nothing, leading Yu-bin to praise him, revealing he hadn’t eaten yet. Joyfully, Tan-sik offered Yu-bin the socks.
The narrative of Seoul Busters took a dark turn when the squad was summoned to investigate the bludgeoning murder of Beom-joon’s father, Yoon Hae-sik. Overcome with grief, Tan-sik became fervently motivated to track down the murderer. Yu-bin, visualizing the crime scene, quickly collaborated with the team to locate the murder weapon—a brick from a nearby site.
While Mu Jung-ryeok (Park Ji-hwan) and Jeong Jeong-hwan initially suspected a mugging, Yu-bin promptly dismissed the theory, emphasizing the crime’s brutal nature. Tan-sik, resolute in his determination, made a promise to catch the killer, with unwavering support from his squad.
Simultaneously in Seoul Busters, Yu-bin was distracted by the absence of his favorite chocolate. As the investigation progressed, the team uncovered that Yoon Hae-sik often clashed with neighbors, revealing he confronted those involved in illegal activities rather than being a nuisance. Despite Tan-sik defending Hae-sik’s actions, an exasperated Yu-bin disregarded his viewpoint, although the squad silently backed Tan-sik.
At a dead end, Tan-sik reminisced about moments with Yoon Hae-sik and received a selfie taken on the day of his death. Recognizing the location in the photo, the team gained a crucial breakthrough. CCTV footage later revealed Yoon Hae-sik engaged in a scuffle outside a club, although the assailant’s identity remained obscured. Yu-bin requested enhancement of the footage.
In another twist during this episode, a witness recounted an assault by a man attempting to force her into his vehicle on the day of Hae-sik’s murder. Yoon Hae-sik had intervened, coming to her rescue. As the witness departed, she casually remarked to Jeong-hwan that Tan-sik resembled an heir to the Tan Restaurant chain, piquing interest. Jeong-hwan subtly stood up for Tan-sik, much to the surprise of Tan-sik and the squad.
After enhancing the footage, the team linked the suspect’s vehicle to Nam Jung-hyun, a person of interest from a past arson case. The episode concluded with Seo Min-seo and Tan-sik heading to the club for further investigation.
Episode 10 kicked off with Yu-bin still preoccupied with the unavailability of his coveted Swiss chocolate. Seo Min-seo and Tan-sik obtained additional CCTV footage from the club, verifying Nam Jung-hyun’s presence on the night of the murder. However, as the footage was obtained unlawfully, they could not arrest him yet.
Instead, they apprehended a drug dealer captured on the footage, who revealed that Nam Jung-hyun had purchased drugs from him, leading to Nam Jung-hyun’s arrest. During questioning, Nam admitted to fighting with Yoon Hae-sik but refused to provide further details.
Meanwhile, Yu-bin was entertainingly sidetracked by spotting a child at the precinct holding the chocolate he craved. In a playful moment, Min-seo swiped the chocolate and handed it to Yu-bin, who resumed his interrogation happily.
The next scene in Seoul Busters featured Nam Jung-hyun engaging in a physical confrontation with Tan-sik. Yu-bin tasked Tan-sik with visiting forensics to check for fiber traces from Jung-hyun’s jacket under Tan-sik’s nails—resulting in the comedic antics the show is known for.
The fibers from the jacket matched those found under Yoon Hae-sik’s nails, confirming Nam Jung-hyun’s culpability. As the team dashed to arrest him before he could escape by air, Yu-bin pieced together the murder narrative: under the influence of drugs, Nam Jung-hyun attacked the witness and, upon Hae-sik’s intervention, killed him with the brick.
However, the squad’s pursuit was comically delayed by a flat tire on their police vehicle. Borrowing a sports car from a friend, Tan-sik raced to intercept Nam Jung-hyun. Upon noticing the squad, Jung-hyun attempted to flee again, setting the stage for a high-stakes chase.
Stuck in cramped conditions within the sports car, the rest of the team struggled to escape. In a gripping fight, Tan-sik initially faced defeat at Jung-hyun’s hands. Remembering the heartfelt encouragement from his father and Beom-joon, and buoyed by Yu-bin’s support, Tan-sik drew strength and eventually subdued and arrested Jung-hyun while wearing the socks gifted by Beom-joon.
In the aftermath, Beom-joon expressed his gratitude to Tan-sik for capturing the murderer and inquired about his motivation to become a police officer. Tan-sik candidly shared that his father was also in law enforcement.
The gripping events of Episode 10 concluded with Jeong-hwan dining at a Tan Restaurant with his wife, where he spotted a family photo, wondering if the young boy in the image was Tan-sik.
Episodes 11 and 12 of Seoul Busters are scheduled for release on Disney+ at 12:30 PM IST and 4:00 PM KST on October 9, 2024.
