In a video shared on social media, Gomez informed her followers that she was en route to the premiere after fulfilling her civic duty by voting. The clip showcased her submitting her ballot while proudly displaying her “I voted”envelope. Dressed in a striking red gown in the video, she was later photographed in the same outfit at the premiere that night.
Gomez’s video sparked a wave of reactions on X, with many speculating that her choice of a red dress hinted at support for Republican candidate Donald Trump, who is often associated with the color red due to his campaign’s red MAGA hats. One user commented:

Wizards Beyond Waverly Place, the follow-up to Disney’s acclaimed series Wizards of Waverly Place, debuted on the Disney Channel on October 29. The series features Selena Gomez and David Henrie reprising their roles as siblings Alex and Justin Russo.
The original show aired from 2007 to 2012, focusing on Alex Russo, portrayed by Gomez, a teenage wizard who trains alongside her brother Justin Russo in their magical endeavors in New York’s Waverly Place.
The sequel picks up years after the original story and explores the current dynamics of the Russo family. It introduces a young wizard named Billie (Janice LeAnn Brown) who approaches Justin for mentorship, reigniting his wizarding passions.
In an interview with Deadline in August 2024, Selena Gomez elaborated on her return to the beloved franchise, saying:
“What I would say is now you’ll get a glimpse of where Alex Russo and the Russo family are 17 something years later. A lot has changed but there’s still the heart of what keeps Wizards of Waverly Place alive. I’m excited and I hope people enjoy it.”
David Henrie, who plays Gomez’s on-screen brother, not only endorsed the project but emphasized the commitment both he and Selena put into it, stating they infused “a lot of love” into the sequel, which fans will surely feel while watching.
Henrie addressed speculations suggesting Gomez would only appear in one episode, confirming that viewers can expect her in multiple episodes. He praised her talent, saying:
“[Selena Gomez] is in multiple episodes so I’m not sure why people keep saying she’s only in one. She’s incredible as her current self playing Alex. The moment before we filmed our first scene, it felt like we hadn’t missed a beat. Our chemistry, timing, and flow are still intact—it was nothing short of magic.”
David Henrie further noted that the production team took the original show’s timeline very seriously. He confirmed that a significant period of “12 to 15 years”has lapsed, during which mysteries regarding the lives of Justin and Alex Russo are explored. The sequel is riddled with “Easter eggs and secrets” designed for devoted fans of the original.
The first two episodes of Wizards Beyond Waverly Place premiered on Disney Channel on October 29 and are now available for streaming on Disney+. Selena Gomez reprises her role as Alex Russo in the pilot episode.
