Essential Updates for Call of Duty: Black Ops 6
- Developer Treyarch announces significant changes to camo challenges in Multiplayer mode.
- Players can now unlock Special Camos after completing just 5 Military Camos.
- This is a decreased requirement from the previous standard of 9 Military Camos, which involved achieving 100 headshots per weapon.
Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 has introduced a noteworthy adjustment that will enhance gameplay experience for many players. Now, to access and equip any Special Camos for a weapon, players need to complete only five Military Camos, translating to merely 30 headshots per weapon. This update will be implemented with the release of Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 and Warzone Season 2, set to launch today, January 28.
As player engagement on Steam has been declining, the upcoming Season 2 update is critical for the franchise. Season 1 of Black Ops 6 has extended longer than usual, leaving fans eager to dive into fresh content and discover new features. Additionally, Activision has acknowledged community concerns and has committed to resolving notable issues with the next season, including enhancements to Ranked Play, enabling console users to opt out of crossplay. This move aims to address the frustration stemming from rampant hacking incidents affecting both Warzone and Black Ops 6 on the PC platform.
Significant Camo Challenge Updates in Black Ops 6 Season 2
According to the official patch notes released for Black Ops 6 Season 2, Treyarch Studios has acted upon substantial player feedback regarding the limited use of over 250 unique Special Camos. As a direct response, the developer has streamlined the process by allowing players faster access to Special Camos. Effective this season, unlocking 5 Military Camos—equivalent to 30 headshots—will suffice for players to equip Special Camos for their weapons, a shift from the prior requirement of all 9 Military Camos, which amounted to 100 headshots.

The grind for camouflages has long served as a significant motivator in Black Ops 6 since its 2024 release. To achieve the revered Dark Matter camo—considered the pinnacle of in-game achievements—players must complete all 9 Military Camos (requiring 100 headshots for most weapons), conquer 2 Special Camos, and finish off with 4 Mastery Camos. Players have often described the Military Camos as “tedious”due to the extensive number of headshots needed.
Season 2 will also see the launch of a highly-requested camo challenge tracker, aimed at simplifying this process for players still striving for the elusive Dark Matter. This feature, reminiscent of a similar tool in Modern Warfare 3, will enable players to monitor up to 10 camo challenges simultaneously, providing real-time progress updates within the game.
