Sean Diddy Combs Trafficking and Racketeering Case: Court Announces Start Date for Trial

Hip-hop entrepreneur Sean “Diddy”Combs is scheduled to appear in federal court for a trial concerning serious allegations of sex trafficking and racketeering, commencing on May 5, 2025. This trial date was officially set during a hearing in Manhattan federal court on October 10, 2024, presided over by U.S. District Judge Arun Subramanian. Combs, currently 54 years old, has been in federal detention since his arrest in September and is confronting a three-count indictment.

He has entered a plea of not guilty to all charges, which encompass racketeering conspiracy, sex trafficking, and transportation for purposes of prostitution.

The charges against Combs stem from allegations that he exploited his business ventures, particularly Bad Boy Entertainment, to conduct unlawful activities. Prosecutors assert that Combs transported women and male sex workers across state lines to take part in filmed sexual events, referred to as “Freak Offs.”

Legal Team Claims Government Leaks Amid Court Proceedings

During the proceedings, Diddy was seen wearing tan prison garb, gesturing affectionately toward his family members who were present in the courtroom. His defense attorney, Anthony Ricco, indicated that Combs’ mother and children were in attendance.

Following the hearing, U.S. Marshals escorted Combs from the courtroom.

Prosecutor Emily Johnson informed the court that the prosecution’s presentation could be expected to last a minimum of three weeks, while Diddy’s defense lawyer, Marc Agnifilo, projected that the defense case would wrap up within a week.

Combs remains in custody at the Metropolitan Detention Center located in Brooklyn as he awaits his trial, with a pending appeal regarding the denial of his bail.

The court also addressed a motion submitted by Diddy’s legal team, alleging that the government had leaked a surveillance video to CNN. This video, released in May, depicts Combs allegedly assaulting his former partner, Cassie Ventura.

In response, prosecutors labeled the motion as an attempt to eliminate key evidence.

Serious allegations outlined by the prosecutors include claims that Combs lured women using narcotics such as ketamine and ecstasy, along with promises of financial assistance or career opportunities. These women reportedly felt pressured into engaging in recorded sexual activities.

Additionally, prosecutors asserted that Diddy utilized footage from these encounters as a tool for coercion, reportedly using weapons to instill fear in the women.

While the indictment does not accuse Combs of directly committing non-consensual sexual acts, it does allege that he perpetrated physical violence against some women involved. His defense team, under Marc Agnifilo’s leadership, argues that the sexual interactions mentioned by the prosecutors were consensual.

If convicted, Sean Combs faces significant legal repercussions. The three charges against him—racketeering conspiracy, sex trafficking, and transportation to facilitate prostitution—could lead to a life sentence, with a potential minimum of 15 years in prison.

Judge Subramanian also issued a ruling preventing both sides from disclosing any statements related to grand jury materials or confidential evidence.

This ruling follows claims from Combs’ defense that the government was responsible for leaking the hotel surveillance footage to the media.

Prosecutor Emily Johnson denied any governmental involvement in the leak, stating that the government did not possess the footage before CNN released it.

The next scheduled court date for Diddy is December 18, 2024. His legal representatives have emphasized the urgency of a trial due to the continued denial of bail, which has resulted in his ongoing federal detention.
