Scream 7 Star Provides Update on Ghostface’s Role in the New Movie

Overview of Scream 7

  • Expect Ghostface to display unprecedented brutality in Scream 7, elevating the film’s violence to new heights.
  • Mason Gooding expresses his enthusiasm for collaborating with original cast member Neve Campbell in this installment.
  • The possible return of past actors portraying Ghostface heightens the excitement surrounding Scream 7’s release.

Scream 7 is generating considerable buzz as one of the most awaited films slated for release in 2026. Excitement is particularly palpable with the return of iconic faces from the franchise’s past, such as Neve Campbell, Scott Foley, and Matthew Lillard, renowned for his role as one of Ghostface’s original killers. Recent updates regarding Ghostface, the series’ enigmatic antagonist, promise to set the stage for a thrilling continuation of the beloved slasher saga.

During an interview at the Heart Eyes premiere in Los Angeles, Mason Gooding, known for his role as Chad Meeks-Martin, shared insights about the upcoming installment. After making his debut in Scream 5 (2022) and featuring in Scream 6 (2023), Gooding is set to reprise his role alongside the “Core Four” – Sam (Melissa Barrera), Tara (Jenna Ortega), and Mindy (Jasmin Savoy Brown). His comments about Ghostface being “the most brutal he’s been”suggest a shocking evolution in the franchise’s approach to horror.“Ghostface is absolutely the most brutal he’s been. I don’t want to spoil anything, but there’s some stuff that they do to the human body that I feel like Kevin is breaking new ground with, ” he stated, as reported by Variety. He further remarked that the film would be “gross but in a good way.”

Gooding’s excitement extends beyond Ghostface’s brutality; he is particularly eager to share the screen with Neve Campbell. Although they both participated in Scream 5, Gooding felt they lacked the opportunity for meaningful interaction. He expressed joy about working closely with Campbell in this upcoming film: “I get to work with Neve [in ‘Scream 7’], who I didn’t get a great opportunity to see and talk to on a personal level [on ‘Scream 5’], ” he explained. Campbell’s absence from Scream 6, stemming from a pay dispute, has been resolved, marking her return to the franchise in March 2024.

The relationship between Gooding’s remarks about Ghostface’s increased violence and the potential returns of actors Lillard and Foley is intriguing. Both actors have previously donned the Ghostface mask — Lillard as Stu Macher in the original film and Foley as Roman Bridger in Scream 3. Considering Sidney’s (Campbell) imminent return, the notion of a reunion between these characters offers a tantalizing prospect for fans. Should the narrative resurrect Stu, who was presumed dead after a stunning betrayal in the original film, through flashbacks, it could deeply enrich the storyline. Many enthusiasts hope for a gripping showdown between Campbell and Lillard, continuing their iconic battle. Roman, however, met a definitive demise and would likely appear only in flashback scenes.

Scream 7 is scheduled to frighten audiences in theaters on February 27, 2026.
