Scooter Braun Addresses Taylor Swift Feud: “Many Misrepresented Aspects” Revealed

Scooter Braun recently attended the Bloomberg Screentime Event in Los Angeles on October 8, 2024, where he addressed his ongoing dispute with Taylor Swift. During the discussion, he expressed a desire for the public to move beyond the conflict, emphasizing its age. Braun remarked:

“Listen. It’s been five years. I believe it’s time for everyone to let it go. Many aspects were misrepresented. Effective communication is crucial in any disagreement, and airing issues on social media is not the best approach.”

He went on to add:

“When individuals take the opportunity to engage in face-to-face conversations, they often discover that the ‘monster’ is a myth—something that has not yet occurred.”

Braun also shared how his parents encouraged him to watch the documentary “Taylor Swift vs Scooter Braun: Bad Blood,”which debuted in June this year, highlighting the feud between the two artists.

According to Forbes, the tensions escalated in 2019 when Braun acquired her first six albums for $300 million, prompting Swift to begin re-recording her music to reclaim control over her original material.

Examining the Feud Between Taylor Swift and Scooter Braun

The animosity between Taylor Swift and Scooter Braun reportedly commenced when Swift left Big Machine Records, the label behind her initial six albums. Following her exit, Braun purchased the label, thereby acquiring the rights to her catalogue, which deeply frustrated Swift, who had been striving to regain ownership of her masters.

This discord led Swift to reference her former manager across various platforms, including Tumblr. In August 2019, she announced her plans to re-record her music, stating on Good Morning America:

“Yes, that’s accurate. I’m thrilled about it because my current contract allows me to re-record albums one through five starting in November 2020. I’m genuinely excited because I believe artists should own their creations. I’m very passionate about this.”

However, the drama did not cease there. On November 14, 2019, Taylor alleged that Scott Borchetta and Scooter Braun prohibited her from performing her older tracks at the 2019 American Music Awards, where she received the Artist of the Decade honor. In her Tumblr post, she wrote:

“Scott Borchetta and Scooter Braun have now informed me that I’m not allowed to perform my old songs on television because they claim it would be akin to re-recording my music before I’m permitted to do so next year.”

In response, Braun and Big Machine Records refuted Swift’s allegations, issuing a comprehensive statement that claimed they never prevented her from performing her past songs. They added:

“Since Taylor decided to leave Big Machine last fall, we have honored all her requests to license her catalogue to third-party entities while she promotes her current album, Lover, in which we do not have a financial stake.”

The public feud escalated on social media, after which Big Machine Records formally declared that “Taylor Swift can absolutely perform all of her catalogue, both past and present, at the AMAs.”

As the back-and-forth continued, various artists began exploring alternative management firms due to the controversies surrounding Braun, with notable clients like Ariana Grande and Demi Lovato seeking new representation. Ultimately, Scooter Braun announced his retirement in June 2024.

In addition to working with Taylor Swift, Braun had managed several prominent artists, including Ariana Grande, J Balvin, Demi Lovato, Kanye West, and the Kid Laroi.

While Braun has recently shared his perspective, Taylor Swift has yet to comment on the situation, and it remains unclear whether the two will ever collaborate again in the future.
