Samsung’s Exciting New Venture: Auto DeX as an Alternative to Android Auto

When it comes to integrating smartphone features into vehicles, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay are the predominant solutions. These platforms enable users to interact with their mobile applications directly via their car’s display, utilizing either wired or wireless connections. But exciting developments are on the horizon, particularly with Samsung’s potential new offering.

Recently, rumors surfaced that Samsung is crafting its own alternative to Android Auto. An app known as “Samsung Auto”was reportedly piloted in select markets months ago, notably connecting with various automotive brands, including luxury names like Audi and BMW. However, this app was limited to vehicles sold in China.

The Latest Breakthrough: Auto DeX

Fast forward to now, and credible insights from an informant, GalaxyTechie on X, indicate that Samsung is preparing to introduce a feature called “Auto DeX”targeted for a global audience. This intriguing development is said to support over 8, 500 vehicle models from more than 120 manufacturers, which is a substantial breadth compared to existing market offerings.

Design and Functionality

A recent screenshot shared by GalaxyTechie showcases an interface reminiscent of Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, featuring Samsung’s One UI design elements. The interface is intuitively organized, displaying navigation functionalities prominently at the center. Users will also find a “Now Brief”panel at the upper right and a music player widget positioned just below that.

The design extends to a horizontal row of apps on the far left, along with time display at the top. The bottom right corner features Samsung’s traditional three-button navigation setup. What’s particularly noteworthy is that GalaxyTechie claims that Auto DeX will be accessible not just for compatible vehicles but also for individuals who may not own a car.

Possible Unveiling at Upcoming Events

As we await further details, there remains uncertainty surrounding the specific app Samsung will launch to compete with Android Auto. Enthusiasts are hopeful for an unveiling soon—possibly at the forthcoming Unpacked event—where Samsung may reveal its vision for this innovative technology.
