Samsung has launched the highly anticipated 9100 PRO SSD series, leveraging the advanced capabilities of the PCI-E 5.0 standard, which promises exceptionally high sequential read and write speeds.
Introducing the Samsung 9100 PRO SSD Series: PCI-E 5.0 Speeds and Diverse Capacities
As the tech world shifts from PCI-E 4.0 to the next-generation PCI-E 5.0 technology, Samsung has taken a significant step forward by debuting its first Pro series SSDs, the 9100 PRO. This new lineup offers a range of capacities, catering to various user needs, including options without heatsinks for enhanced flexibility.

The 9100 PRO SSD is designed for those requiring large storage solutions, with capacities reaching an impressive 8 TB, in addition to 1 TB, 2 TB, and 4 TB options. While moving from PCI-E 4.0 to PCI-E 5.0 effectively nearly doubles the sequential read and write speeds, it may not result in a substantial difference in everyday usage. Samsung’s earlier flagship model, the 990 PRO, a PCI-E 4.0 SSD, boasted maximum sequential read and write speeds of 7, 450 MB/s and 6, 900 MB/s, respectively.

In contrast, the Samsung 9100 PRO achieves remarkable speeds of up to 14, 800 MB/s for sequential read and 13, 400 MB/s for sequential write. This performance leap is powered by Samsung’s V NAND TLC (V8) technology, specifically engineered with 1-terabit TLC and supporting data transfer rates of up to 2.4 Gbps, providing a 1.2x increase over the previous generation.
From AI-driven creators shaping the future to gamers pushing the limits, we saw a clear need for innovation to support users who need more forward-thinking memory technology as they push the bounds of what’s possible in their work.
The 9100 PRO SSD establishes a new era of performance to help them achieve exactly that. With more storage, even better speeds, improved power efficiency, and seamless reliability, the lineup empowers users to continue innovating without storage limitations.

The unveiling of the 9100 PRO at the GTC conference highlights its focus on high-performance computing systems. Besides its outstanding sequential read/write capabilities, the 9100 PRO also excels in random read/write performance, offering IOPS rates of up to 2, 200K and 2, 600K, respectively. This marks a significant improvement over the 990 PRO’s performance metrics of 1, 400K and 1, 550K and should translate to enhanced speeds in real-world applications and gaming scenarios, provided that your motherboard supports PCI-E 5.0.

Equipped with a cutting-edge 5nm controller crafted by Samsung, the 9100 PRO SSD not only delivers exceptional speed but also offers enhanced power efficiency, achieving an impressive 49% improvement compared to its predecessor.
Available with or without a heatsink, the 9100 PRO is designed for effective thermal management and prolonged operation. Pricing begins at $199 for the 1 TB model, with the 2 TB and 4 TB versions retailing for $299 and $549, respectively. Models featuring a heatsink include a $20 premium over the base prices, while the anticipated 8 TB variant is scheduled for release in the latter half of 2025.
Shoppers can purchase the 1 TB, 2 TB, and 4 TB models through Samsung’s official website.
