Samsung Reportedly Maintaining Dual-Chipset Launch With Galaxy S25 Series By Introducing Exynos 2500, Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 Variants Next Year

Samsung revealed the Exynos 2400 and Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 models for its newest Galaxy S24 series earlier this year. A recent report suggests that the company will continue with a dual-chipset release for the Galaxy S25 family in 2025. However, instead of the previous versions, the upcoming lineup is expected to feature the Exynos 2500 and Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 variants.

Possible Variants for the Launch of the Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra

According to a report from DigiTimes that requires payment to access, Samsung plans to follow the same approach for its Galaxy S25 lineup as it did with the Galaxy S24. However, the proportion of Exynos 2500 and Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 shipments has not been specified in the excerpt below. It also remains unknown whether the upcoming flagship model, the Galaxy S25 Ultra, will only feature the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4, the Exynos 2500, or both.

“Samsung Electronics is expected to maintain the dual-track application processor (AP) system for its next-generation Galaxy S25 series of smartphones in 2025, entailing the use of both Samsung’s proprietary APs and Qualcomm mobile SoCs.”

In the past, Qualcomm’s Snapdragon chipset has consistently outperformed its Exynos counterpart in both computing and graphics capabilities. So, it may seem puzzling that Samsung would choose to release the Galaxy S25 with a dual-chipset launch, potentially offering models with a weaker SoC. The reason behind this decision lies in the exorbitant pricing of Snapdragon chipsets.

With the expected cost of $200 per unit for the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 and hints from a Qualcomm executive that the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 will be the company’s priciest SoC yet, Samsung faces a challenge in maintaining its profit margins by relying solely on one chip. However, the introduction of the Exynos 2400 and, in the future, the Exynos 2500, gives the Korean company the opportunity to sustain a profitable stream without sacrificing hardware advancements.

The Exynos 2500 has been the subject of early rumors discussing its specifications. Reports indicate that it will feature an RDNA4 GPU and support LPDDR5T RAM, similar to the Exynos 2400. However, unlike its predecessor, it will have a Cortex-X5 and a 10-core CPU cluster. We anticipate that there will be more rumors in the future, especially regarding the Galaxy S24 series, so stay tuned for further updates.
