Samsung Mobile Chief Confirms Tri-Fold Flagship Phone Usability Improvements, Targeting Year-End Launch; Device Reportedly Ready for Release

Recent announcements from Samsung regarding the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Galaxy Z Flip 7 have raised eyebrows, especially in light of unfulfilled expectations for their much-anticipated tri-fold smartphone. Rumored to be named the Galaxy G Fold, this innovative device is reportedly in the advanced stages of development, according to the company’s mobile division leadership. Despite this, conflicting statements regarding its market readiness and predicted launch timeline have left many curious.

Samsung’s Tri-Fold Launch Status and Market Strategy

In an interview with The Korea Times, Roh Tae-moon, the head of Samsung Electronics’ Device Experience Division, shared insights about the tri-fold smartphone. While he confirmed that the device is under development, he noted that the name has yet to be finalized, with a targeted launch by year-end hinging on the product’s usability and consumer demand.

“We are working hard on a tri-fold smartphone with the goal of launching it at the end of this year. We are now focusing on perfecting the product and its usability, but we have not decided on its name. As the product nears completion, we are planning to make a final decision soon.”

Further complicating matters, a Samsung representative informed Android Authority that while the tri-fold design has been ready for some time, the company remains hesitant to launch it due to uncertainties surrounding its commercial viability.

“We’ve had a tri-fold for some time, designed and everything. So it’s not a new concept to us. What we’re debating is the viability. When I say the viability, is there really a demand for this form factor?”

Considering the anticipated price of approximately 4 million Korean won (around $3, 000), the tri-fold device may prove to be a luxury rather than a mainstream option for most consumers. As we await further updates, it appears prudent to align our expectations with the insights shared by TM Roh, particularly as they come from Samsung’s leading mobile executive.

We will continue to monitor this situation closely and provide further insights as they emerge on Samsung’s exciting developments in foldable technology.
