Samsung has made headlines with the introduction of their 3GB GDDR7 memory modules, previously integrated only into the Laptop RTX 5090. Now, with improved availability, there’s growing speculation that NVIDIA may leverage these modules in the upcoming Super series graphics cards.
Availability of Samsung’s 3GB GDDR7 Memory Chips Sparks Speculation on RTX 50 “Super”Series
Currently, the RTX 50 series graphics processing units (GPUs), spanning both desktop and laptop versions, predominantly feature 2GB GDDR7 memory modules. However, the RTX 5090 laptop stands out as the first model to utilize the 3GB memory chips. Given that these modules are now more accessible, analysts believe NVIDIA may be preparing to introduce them in the forthcoming “Super”series of RTX 50 GPUs.
A notable sign of this potential upgrade is the listing of Samsung’s 3GB GDDR7 modules by a Chinese retailer, as highlighted by @RubyRapids. The 3GB modules are identified by the model number K4VCF325ZC-SC28, while their 2GB counterparts are known as K4VAF325ZC. These 3GB modules are also mentioned in NVIDIA’s official video for the RTX 5090, further hinting at possible enhancements for this flagship card.
The RTX 5090 already leads the GeForce lineup with unmatched VRAM capacity. Should NVIDIA transition from 2GB to 3GB memory modules in this model, enthusiasts could potentially see a new 48GB variant of the RTX 5090. Beyond this flagship, the prospect of enhancing VRAM across other models in the RTX 50 lineup, such as the RTX 5080, RTX 5070, and RTX 5060, is highly intriguing.
In particular, the RTX 5060 would see significant benefits from the 3GB modules, upgrading its modest 8GB VRAM to a more competitive 12GB. However, NVIDIA’s plans regarding this upgrade remain uncertain. Additionally, there are rumors suggesting the impending release of an RTX 5080 “Super”model this year with a notable increase to 24GB VRAM, up from the original 16GB.
Similar expectations surround the RTX 5070, with speculations of it featuring a robust 18GB GDDR7 VRAM capacity, while the RTX 5070 Ti could sport 24GB with the newer 3GB modules. While these upgrades remain speculative, the likelihood of the Super series undergoing such enhancements is promising.
