Samsung Galaxy S25 Models Expected to Feature 12GB RAM as Standard, Doubling the Current 8GB Memory

In the realm of flagship smartphones, Samsung has previously faced criticism for its approach to internal specifications, especially regarding RAM. The introduction of the Galaxy S24 series, which features 8GB RAM as its entry-level option, caused a stir among consumers and tech enthusiasts alike. However, recent rumors suggest that Samsung may be rectifying its strategy with the upcoming Galaxy S25 series by standardizing 12GB of RAM across all models.

Elevating Performance with Increased RAM

This anticipated upgrade is significant, particularly as it aligns with the trend of incorporating more sophisticated on-device generative AI functionalities that demand enhanced memory resources. This year, Samsung’s flagship models saw a RAM cap of 12GB, with only the Galaxy S24 Plus and S24 Ultra benefiting from this higher specification. Meanwhile, the base Galaxy S24 remained limited with just 8GB RAM, which has drawn negative feedback from users seeking robust performance.

Tech leaker Abhishek Yadav recently shared on X that for the upcoming Galaxy S25 series, every model—including the S25, S25+, and S25 Ultra—will come equipped with a minimum of 12GB RAM. This enhancement promises to improve multitasking capabilities, allowing apps to run seamlessly in the background and facilitating better performance in utilizing on-device generative AI features.

Competing in a Growing Market

This year, Samsung launched ‘Galaxy AI,’ enabling a suite of generative AI capabilities that primarily function via cloud integration. However, to harness more advanced features locally, the transition to 12GB RAM is crucial. Despite this advancement, it may not be sufficient when considering rival offerings, such as the OnePlus 13, which boasts a staggering 24GB LPDDR5X RAM in its premium version. This underscores the need for Samsung to push the limits with its Galaxy S25 Ultra, potentially allowing for additional memory configurations.

Furthermore, renowned tipster Ice Universe has confirmed that the Galaxy S25 Ultra will likely retain the 12GB RAM standard, with an upgraded version potentially offering 16GB for those willing to invest more. As the industry evolves, a pivot towards a minimum of 20GB RAM for devices running advanced AI models appears inevitable.

Although Samsung may not incorporate 20GB RAM into its devices immediately, the increasing pressure from competitors will likely compel the company to adapt its offerings to include higher specifications in response to evolving consumer demands for cutting-edge technology.
