Last year marked a pivotal moment in smartphone display technology with Samsung’s introduction of LTPO (Low-Temperature Polycrystalline Oxide) as a standard, particularly within the Galaxy S24 series. Now, as the company unveils the Galaxy S25 lineup, notable enhancements have been implemented, especially with the introduction of Samsung’s proprietary HOP 3.0 technology. This advancement is set to refine the user experience through significant improvements in display performance.
Enhancements Brought by HOP 3.0: Efficiency and Touch Response
In a preview conducted by the YouTube channel The Tech Chap, it was revealed that the Galaxy S25 models now utilize HOP 3.0 technology, which stands for ‘Hybrid Oxide and Polycrystalline Silicon.’ This innovative display technology allows for a dynamic refresh rate ranging from 1Hz to 120Hz, adapting based on the displayed content. HOP 3.0, however, provides additional enhancements over its predecessor, taking the capabilities of LTPO a step further.
Samsung has leveraged the inherent efficiencies of LTPO, marrying them with their own enhancements to boost performance. While specific figures regarding battery life improvement have yet to be disclosed by Samsung, the new display panels are noted to enhance the touch sampling rate, thereby improving responsiveness during gaming sessions.
Moreover, the brightness adaptation for outdoor use has seen considerable enhancements, even though maximum brightness levels remain consistent with those of the Galaxy S24 series. It is commendable that Samsung continually seeks avenues for improvement in aspects that competitors may overlook, believing they have already achieved optimal performance. The future availability of this technology to other smartphone manufacturers remains uncertain, but for the time being, it is exclusive to the Galaxy S25 family.
