Samsung Executive Teases Upcoming Blood Glucose Monitoring Feature in Future Galaxy Watch, Describes It as a ‘Game-Changer’

The prospect of integrating a non-invasive blood glucose monitoring sensor into smartwatches is certainly intriguing, particularly given its potential benefits for health management. Tech giants like Samsung and Apple are reportedly dedicating significant resources to develop this feature in their wearable devices. Recent statements from a Samsung executive indicate promising advancements, although many specifics remain undisclosed.

Exciting Developments in Non-Invasive Glucose Monitoring at Galaxy Tech Forum

As Samsung seeks to introduce health-centric functionalities similar to the ECG monitoring feature found in the Apple Watch, the company aims to outpace its competitor in the realm of non-invasive blood glucose tracking. During the Galaxy Tech Forum held in San Jose, California, Dr. Hon Pak, the Senior Vice President and Head of the Digital Health Team at Samsung’s Mobile eXperience Business, articulated his enthusiasm regarding the ongoing work in this field. Though specific launch details were not shared, he confirmed that development is actively underway.

“What I’m really excited about is our team, as you may have assumed, we are working on a non-invasive optically-based continuous glucose monitor. I can’t tell you the time [of the launch], but I’m very excited about the progress we are making, and this, if we do it right, will be a game-changer.”

News of Samsung’s ambition in non-invasive blood glucose monitoring was first disclosed in early 2024, alongside hints about the potential introduction of a Galaxy Ring designed to enhance health-tracking capabilities while keeping the device lightweight. In contrast, Apple has faced hurdles in the development of its blood glucose monitoring technology, despite having had ample time to refine similar features in its smartwatch lineup.

While the Samsung executive refrained from specifying a release date, it appears we may need to wait several years before this innovative feature makes its debut in the upcoming Galaxy Watch models. Nevertheless, if successful, this technology could revolutionize certain aspects of the medical landscape, providing users with unprecedented access to their health data.
