During a conversation with Tom’s Hardware, Blake Gaiser, the director of smartphone product management at Samsung Electronics America, discussed the Galaxy S25 Edge’s 3, 900mAh battery. This limited capacity was a necessary trade-off to maintain the device’s sleek 5.8mm profile. Although Samsung had the option to implement silicon-carbon battery technology, as some of its Chinese rivals have done, the executive explained that the use of agentic AI optimizes performance and efficiency without those advanced battery technologies.
“Samsung’s always looking at every new emerging technology that’s out there. So it’s something that we’re definitely not keeping our eyes off of. But with that new chipset, with agentic AI helping with performance and efficiencies of these batteries, we really felt that going with our traditional lithium-ion battery was the right move for this device.”
Looking ahead, there is speculation that Samsung may introduce silicon-carbon battery technology in the upcoming Galaxy S26 Edge next year. Rumors suggest that if this technology is utilized for the Galaxy S26 Ultra, it could see its battery capacity soar to an impressive 7, 000mAh. Meanwhile, Samsung is also researching solid-state batteries, anticipated to debut in its wearables—such as smartwatches, earbuds, and smart rings—by late 2025.
