Samsung Doubts Galaxy Z TriFold Reception, Adopts Cautious Approach

Samsung seems to be proceeding with caution regarding the anticipated launch of its innovative triple-folding smartphone, known as the Galaxy Z TriFold. The tech giant is reportedly uncertain about how the market will receive this novel device, prompting a thoughtful approach to its production and availability.

Production Numbers for the Samsung Galaxy Z TriFold Remain Low

According to a recent report from the South Korean outlet, The Elec, Samsung’s initial production plans for the Galaxy Z TriFold involve manufacturing a mere 20, 000 to 30, 000 units. This figure reflects a modest increase from the previous estimate of 10, 000 units communicated to suppliers in July. However, conversations regarding additional component supply have been scarce, casting doubt on whether Samsung will boost production further.

To put these numbers in perspective, an initial output of 20, 000 to 30, 000 units is considered minimal by Samsung’s standards. In contrast, the Galaxy S25 Edge, despite its poor market performance, managed to achieve sales of 650, 000 units within its first month. The vast difference in target production volume likely stems from the significant pricing disparity; the Galaxy Z TriFold is expected to retail at an eye-watering $2, 000, while the S25 Edge’s pricing was more accessible.

For those unfamiliar with the Galaxy Z TriFold’s design, this innovative smartphone features a unique triple-folding form factor supported by two hinges. One hinge has a tighter radius, allowing the inner displays to stack upon one another, thereby safeguarding the delicate inner display from external elements. This design contrasts sharply with the Huawei Mate XT, which incorporates an outward-folding display alongside its inward-folding mechanism.

Moreover, the Galaxy Z TriFold boasts impressive specifications, including a 10-inch OLED inner display, surpassing the 8-inch display found on the Galaxy Fold 7, and a 6.5-inch outer screen. The device also comes with a robust triple-camera configuration: a 200-megapixel main camera with 100x zoom capabilities, a 12-megapixel ultra-wide lens, and a 10-megapixel telephoto lens offering 3x optical zoom. Powering all these features are three batteries, potentially silicon-carbon technology, that collectively provide over 5, 000mAh capacity, all enclosed within a durable titanium frame. Additionally, the device is equipped with the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 System on Chip (SoC), ensuring robust performance for its users.
