Samsung Announces 512 TB PCIe Gen6 SSDs Set for 2027 Release; InnoGrit Develops PCIe Gen6 AI NVMe/CXL SSDs for Enterprise Solutions

Leading SSD manufacturers are set to introduce their next-generation PCIe Gen6 SSDs targeted for enterprise use, expected between 2026 to 2027. This upcoming release is primarily motivated by the increasing demands of artificial intelligence (AI) technologies.

Upcoming Innovations: Samsung’s 512 TB PCIe Gen6 SSDs and InnoGrit’s AI Solutions

The enterprise and server market is on the brink of significant upgrades as manufacturers accelerate their plans for PCIe Gen6 SSDs. During the GMIF Innovation Summit 2025 in Shenzen, major players showcased their advanced technologies, underscoring their commitment to meeting future needs.

Samsung is poised to lead the charge with its upcoming CXL 3.1 and PCIe 6.0 CMM-D products. Kevin Yoo, Vice President and Chief Technology Officer of the Memory Business Unit, revealed plans for a next-gen PM1763 Gen6 SSD, expected to debut in early 2026. This innovative drive is anticipated to deliver double the performance, enhanced energy efficiency, and only 25 watts of power consumption.

Looking ahead, Samsung aims to provide even larger capacities, with a 256 TB Gen5 solution currently being rolled out and the anticipated 512 TB Gen6 solution slated for a 2027 launch. Both will utilize the EDSFF 1T form factor, which is crucial for enterprise applications. Additionally, Samsung is readying its seventh generation of Z-NAND technology, which is expected to arrive next year.

InnoGrit, another key player, has revealed its own plans for PCIe Gen6 SSDs tailored for AI enterprise applications. The company is developing a cutting-edge solution capable of achieving up to 25 million IOPS and exceptional 512B Random Read speeds, with an expected launch of their first PCIe 6.0 SSDs by 2026.

Additionally, Silicon Motion presented its SM8466 PCIe Gen6 SSD controller at the summit. This advanced controller is designed to provide impressive data transfer speeds of up to 28 GB/s while supporting 512 TB capacities. Although the release for the enterprise segment is anticipated by 2026, consumer-oriented Gen6 SSDs are not expected to emerge until at least 2028 or 2029.
