Russell Wilson hypes up NC State as DJ Burns Jr. lifts Wolfpack past Duke to reach Final Four of March Madness

Despite having played for two teams throughout his football career, the Seattle Seahawks and Denver Broncos, Russell Wilson’s time at NC State remains one of his most cherished memories. He is, in fact, one of the most accomplished football alumni in the history of the university, a fact that may be unknown to many.

On Sunday, this was once again evident when he praised DJ Burns Jr. and the Wolfpack after their victory over the Duke Blue Devils, 76-64, advancing them to the Final Four of the NCAA men’s basketball tournament.

Is Russell Wilson capable of leading the Steelers to the same success as the Seahawks? Kurt Warner weighs in

Despite high hopes for Russell Wilson’s arrival as a trade to the Denver Broncos in 2022, it can be argued that his legacy was marred by his disappointing time with the team. Rather than leading them back to Super Bowl contention as anticipated, he was a part of their dismal 5-12 record.

In an effort to enhance their performance in the 2023-24 season, the team made the decision to bring on board Sean Payton, a renowned figure from the Saints, with the hope that his expertise in grooming quarterbacks would lead to a turnaround for the team. Despite their progress with an 8-9 record, Wilson was unable to make a significant impact. As a result, he was released from the team with three years left on his contract at the end of the season.

Just two days later, Wilson signed with the Pittsburgh Steelers and will be earning the veteran minimum. There is a growing sense of hope that he will be able to return to his previous successful form, especially under the guidance of experienced head coach Mike Tomlin. Upon joining the team, Wilson will become a part of a talented offensive lineup, including running backs Jaylen Warren and Najee Harris, wide receiver George Pickens, tight end Pat Freiermuth, and versatile player Cordarrelle Patterson.

Despite the possibility, Hall of Famer Kurt Warner has expressed skepticism about whether this will come to fruition. During an interview on The Pat McAfee Show on Friday, he shared his doubts, stating:

“Can Russell do that? Can Russell get back to being that guy he was in Seattle, which was more creative, more off-schedule type plays? More of a simple offense that says, ‘Hey, pick a guy, and sling it or go create.’”

The Steelers are set to kick off their offseason camp on April 15. Following this, they will have an opportunity to enhance their offense through the 2024 NFL Draft, with the 20th overall pick in their possession.
