RuPaul’s Drag Race season 16 episode 13: Recap and more details explored

On Friday, March 29, episode 13 of RuPaul’s Drag Race season 16 was released, resulting in the elimination of another queen. In the previous episode, the remaining contestants were challenged to showcase their skills in designing, comedy, hosting, and concept-building through a custom powder room design competition.

Sapphira Cristál and Plane Jane’s team emerged as the victorious winners, while Dawn was eliminated after landing in the bottom spot and losing the lip-sync battle to Morphine Love Dion.

In the 13th episode of RuPaul’s Drag Race, titled Drag Race Vegas LIVE! Makeovers, the remaining five queens made their comeback to participate in another challenge. Similar to the previous two challenges, this task also required teamwork. However, this time, the queens were teamed up with special guests who were not part of the competition.

Kelsea Ballerini, a four-time Grammy nominee and renowned country pop singer known for her popular songs such as Love Me Like You Mean It, Peter Pan, and Legends, made a special appearance as a guest judge on the Emmy-winning competition series. Additionally, RuPaul was joined by Michelle Visage and Ts Madison on the panel.

Recap of RuPaul’s Drag Race season 16 episode 13

At the werk room, RuPaul presented the queens with the hunky male Pit Crew dancers from the RuPaul’s Drag Race LIVE! show in Las Vegas. Their task for the maxi-challenge was to give the male dancers, who were already in drag, a makeover to fit into their own drag family. Each queen was randomly paired with one of the dancers, and they had to work together to successfully transform their partner.

In addition to having a striking familial resemblance, the queens were tasked with performing a dance routine. As the contestants became acquainted with their partners, a humorous moment arose when Plane Jame unveiled her partner’s drag name, Lazy Susan, causing RuPaul to burst into laughter.

During the segment, the mothers and their newly transformed colleagues were seen rehearsing their choreography on the stage. Sapphira soon noticed that her costume was quite heavy and would make it difficult for her to walk on the runway. Viewers also got to see Nymphia Wind’s vulnerable side as she opened up about her struggles with self-confidence and self-doubt. In a conversation with her drag daughter Juanita, Nymphia expressed her insecurities.

During another intimate moment, Plane Jane and Lazy Susan commemorated their queerness by reminiscing about difficult experiences.

The final runway segment of RuPaul’s Drag Race season 16 episode 13

The previous week, the theme for the runway segment was “Chain Reactions,”requiring the queens to showcase chain-detailing as the focal point of their outfits. This week, the main factor for judging was “drag family resemblance.”

The concept of using Q and her drag daughter Luna’s white faces as black canvases received positive reviews. While Morphine and LaTina excelled in the makeup game, their outfits seemed to have lacked excitement.

Meanwhile, the judges were captivated by Nymphia and Juanita’s feathered attire, which stole the show. However, they advised Nymphia to break away from her constant use of yellow and try something new. Sapphira and Shakira’s subdued performance was well-received, but it was Plane Jane and Lazy Susan who ultimately won over the hearts of the audience.

Which contestant was eliminated on RuPaul’s Drag Race season 16 episode 13?

After receiving critiques from the judges, Plane Jane and her drag daughter Lazy Susan were declared the winners. Sapphira and Morphine, on the other hand, landed in the bottom two and had to go head-to-head in a lip-sync showdown to determine who would stay in the competition.

Kelsea Ballerini’s hit track Miss Me More served as the backdrop for the queen’s performance as a guest judge. Following deliberation by the panel, RuPaul announced that Morphine would be sashaying away, ultimately landing her in fifth place for the season 16 of RuPaul’s Drag Race.

After Morphine’s departure, the remaining queens are Q, Sapphira, Nymphia, and Plane Jane.

The 14th episode of RuPaul’s Drag Race season 16 will make its comeback on Friday, April 5, exclusively on MTV.
