As one of the longest-standing MMORPGs, RuneScape has maintained its relevance since its 2001 debut. Over the years, the game has evolved through various iterations, despite facing several controversies. Nevertheless, Jagex’s unwavering commitment to delivering fresh content has solidified RuneScape’s reputation as one of the genre’s best offerings. Interestingly, its prominent competitor remains its own 2013 spinoff, Old School RuneScape, which continues to gain traction.

The most significant revelation from Jagex is the introduction of Havenhythe, an expansive new area set to debut in 2026. This expansion is expected to unfold throughout the year, with Jagex asserting that this will be “an epic, year-long adventure.”The blog post featured compelling concept art, hinting at the various quests and adventures that await players in this new locale.





Further into the future, Jagex has indicated that development of the next skill for RuneScape 3 is already underway. Following the successful release of Necromancy in 2023, which revitalized combat mechanics, this new skill is still in its early stages and will take considerable time to materialize. In contrast, Old School RuneScape is making strides towards launching an Alpha version for its inaugural new skill—Sailing.
