If you’re on a quest to enhance your party lineup in Rune Factory: Guardians of Azuma, transitioning from former adversaries to allies is a highly effective strategy. By befriending various monsters, players can significantly broaden their roster while adding unique dynamics to their gameplay.
While it’s true that monster companions may not offer stat enhancements or yield rewards through Bond Level progression, they present a fast track to incorporating formidable allies into your team. Additionally, diversifying your party’s elemental damage capabilities is made simpler with these creatures. Notably, Guardians of Azuma even allows players to form bonds with mighty boss monsters!
Unique Boss Monsters to Consider
One standout choice for players looking to add a boss monster to their repertoire is the Winter Region’s White Wolf. Known for its substantial HP and a balanced combination of melee and ranged Water-type ice attacks, this chilly companion is a worthy addition to any team.
Since bosses can be battled multiple times, players can recruit several White Wolves, providing an opportunity to surround opponents with ice-based attacks and tactics.
Taming Requirements

To successfully tame the White Wolf, players must first revive Fubuki, the God of Winter by defeating this boss during a main story quest, which also unlocks the skill tree for the Sacred Parasol.
Additionally, having a sufficiently spacious Barn in your village is crucial. To accommodate a White Wolf, you will require four open spaces. A complimentary Barn can be found in the Autumn Region once you unlock the herding feature for monsters. It’s important to note that larger creatures, like the White Wolf, take up an entire space in a basic Barn.
Building | Materials | Storage Units |
---|---|---|
Barn | 35 Lumber, 15 Stone | 4 |
Large Children | 100 Lumber, 40 Stone | 8 |
Should you forget to build a new Barn, there’s no need for concern! You can rearrange your barns even after befriending a monster, although doing so might involve releasing some of your existing companions.
You will also need an Ice Crystal to present to the White Wolf. Unlike many other items, Ice Crystals can be mined directly from specific locations!

The most accessible source can be found in the southeast chamber of the Summer Region’s Limestone Caverns. However, the Winter Region’s frozen waterfall is generally the most convenient location for mining Ice Crystals.

This landmark is located in the northern section of the primary large area, beyond the broken bridge. Look for a mining point at the bottom of the waterfall, and there is another at the upper end of the frozen lake, complete with a treasure chest.
Utilize Matsuri’s Sacred Sword to melt a block of ice below the plateau, revealing an air vent that you can use to ascend with the help of the Sacred Parasol, landing you right by the frozen waterfall.
If you prefer not to spend time collecting resources, you could opt to purchase Ice Crystals from Hisui’s shop in Summer Village, although they come with a hefty price tag of 10, 000 gold.
Poaching the Pooch
With your Barn ready and an Ice Crystal in hand, it’s time to challenge the White Wolf once more. Don’t forget to activate the Dragon Statue, or else you’ll have to trek back up White Wolf Mountain.
Upon arriving at the battlefield, a purple orb will be present in the center. Interact with it to start the rematch. Given your previous victory against the White Wolf, this encounter should be manageable.
Initiate the taming with the Plum Branch by performing the Dance of Bonds near the White Wolf. If you succeed, a smiley-face icon will appear beneath its health bar.
Next, defeat the White Wolf again. After your triumph, you can attempt to befriend it by presenting the Ice Crystal. Enjoy welcoming your new icy companion!
Even if the White Wolf initially does not respond positively, don’t be discouraged. If you notice a heart icon, it indicates the gift was well-received. Keep trying until you succeed, as you can offer up to three gifts during each taming attempt.
